Only if you stay in cryptoland. As soon as you hit someplace with fiat rails, in a jurisdiction that requires adherence to regulatory requirements, your account is just as regulated. Crypto has its own failure modes: https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/ (day job is in US financial services, have consulted on implementing aml/kyc/sanctions support for where crypto rails meet traditional finance infra)

You forget that Polymarket is just a casino, and the house always wins. For example, recent events show that any bet can be selectively disputed by arbitrary reason ("we found insiders", "we found this immoral/illegal", etc.). And for perpetual events - there is not a single week without a hack (https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/)

> cybercrime targeting cryptocurrency caused the largest loss, exceeding $11 billion across 181,565 cases. https://web3isgoinggreat.com > According to the IC3, Americans over the age of 60 were hit the hardest, with reported losses of $7.7 billion, a 37% increase compared to the previous year. :-(

May I introduce you to a concept called "shorting"? You can make money from falling prices without selling the stolen coins. As I said just moving Satoshi's coins would lead to lots of panic selling. The snarky reply would be that having their funds stolen is not something that seems to discourage people from having cryptocurrencies as it happens all the time: https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/

I would expect it to not be written by an LLM. Molly White didn’t run Web3 is Going Great on the blockchain. https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/

From the name I expected it to be a list of dead companies and investor losses, kind of like https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/ > Bitcoin has died 450 times. If you invested $100 each time, you'd have $96,489,717 today. I think this would be more interesting if the same sequence of $100 infusions were also applied to various popular stocks, comparing those hypothetical returns. If we're going to have survivorship bias, we might as well at least compare multiple survivors.

There's a great index of hacks here https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/?theme=hack It's breathtaking how frequent these are.

it is ok my dude you do not have you use it. you think bitcoin uses more power than all the banks, merchant POS backends like visa and mastercard, things like SEPA, paper transactions, paper printers -because cash- , etc you even mention gpus not asics and POW as a bad thing. it is the ONLY thing that is worth about bitcoin. > https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/ try ctrl+f bitcoin lol
thrance · 2025-07-27
That's an obvious flat out lie, crypto consumes much more power than the banking system, because of course it does. It literally relies on proof of work, through arrays of GPUs pointlessly crunching numbers. And that's just to handle a fraction of the number of transactions the banking system does. It's estimated that Bitcoin alone uses up as much power as an entire country: https://www.polytechnique-insights.com/en/columns/energy/bitcoin-elect… And how many people use crypto again? As for the thievery part: https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com

Stablecoins can, when interest rates are reasonably above zero, support themselves with the interest on the money. That could potentially work. The industry tradition, however, is the promoters stealing the money.[1] Usually by investing it in something risky, with the intent of keeping the excess profits but dumping any losses on the stablecoin holder. Trump has a stablecoin, "USD1". It's partly backed by Trump's memecoin, "TRUMP" Really.[2] What could possibly go wrong?[3] [1] https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/ [2] https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/usd1-the-cryptocurrency-behi… [3] https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/official-trump/

Ah yes, that'll solve all problems (https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/). Cynicism aside, I'd rather not receive compensation in a currency that's mainly used for speculation. And to exchange it back into a "meaningful" currency somewhat securely requires me to go through an exchange, which is usually again a company that can make up their own policies? Seems to me this is just making it more complicated and more resource intensive.

What is the equivalent website to https://web3isgoinggreat.com for banks, and what is the relative %age lost/stolen on a daily/weekly/monthly basis? I'll bet it's WAY higher for crypto.

I wonder if the memecoin promotion helps the Argentinian economy at all https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/?id=milei-memecoin-promotion
Lionga · 2025-01-30
So your only use for stablecoins is to avoid regulation so you can kind of look like a bank but without any proper regulation/security just with lots of more potential issues (looking forward to find you on https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/ ) while the poor users should know as little as possible (abstracted away) that they actually do not have dollars but just IOUs from some random startup?

Very cool to see this implemented. I had a similar idea to build a timeline-based site like this where people could create their own timelines to share, and not just for journalism. One idea I had that you might be thinking about already is making it possible to create different versions of timelines. That is, if I see a timeline, I could fork it and make my own copy that I could edit, i.e. remove some entries if it I'm trying to highlight key events or add my own observed events. That way, you wouldn't necessarily need to reach a consensus on a specific timeline, but you could still trace the lineage of different versions of timelines. In terms of UX, I thought something similar to https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/ would be a good starting point to allow for lots of information on the page. Looking forward to seeing how this site develops! Best of luck.

Another great resource for crypto news is Molly White's website: https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/ What's amazing to me is reading about what the crypto thieves and smart contract exploiters do with the funds they've taken. It seems common for a person who's managed to acquire $100K USD worth of ETH or Solana to then turn around and buy some NFTs with it. I'm like: "Dude, you just had a great payday, now you get to ride off into the sunset with your ill-gotten gains." But either they are crazy, the world is crazy, or I'm going crazy. I don't understand it all.
thih9 · 2024-03-26
I'd guess the unreliability of crypto, at least based on how often https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com is being linked here.

Recent genAI shakeups in the past week: 1. Inflection AI -- ceo out to MSFT 2. Stability AI -- ceo out to ____ (infinite sum games? with EigenLayer?) What else? Is there a "GenAI is going great" website yet? (ala "web3 is going great": https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/)

https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/?id=kickstarter-continues-with-blockc… Back in 2022: > Kickstarter's COO, Sean Leow, did an interview with The Beat to discuss the announcement. He seemed to be a little bit confused on the whole concept throughout, and seemed to believe that "open source" is some sort of competing idea to blockchains. At one point he stated, "We believe that that data can be structured in a way through a blockchain where it ... can move in a much more efficient and effective way between services ... in a way that open source doesn't allow". Later in the interview he spoke about governance, saying, "our understanding is that [governance] is done more effectively with blockchain then with open-source."
