(Apologies, to be clear, I meant sunshine as in "sunshine is the best disinfectant," as in shedding light on a dark corner. That should have been more directly said
(Apologies, article is from 2022, not 2024. (But only ever more apt.))
Also loving this other recent submission!

Looks like more SBF the magic boy wonder talk.
His bullshit doesn't get challenged. This same media machine could make him an 'unperson' if they wanted. He has political capital in the sense that his going down may affect others. It is possible that it is these others that are likely being protected here.
As for "tenacious and seasoned journalists", my favorite these days is Whitney Webb:
https://unlimitedhangout.com/2022/12/investigative-reports/ftx-and-the…
That is tenacious journalism.

There is an interesting article highlighting that Operation Warp Speed has handed out Vaccine contracts to entities very closely associated with the CIA/DHS.
https://unlimitedhangout.com/2020/10/investigative-reports/operation-w…
The article highlights all kinds of crazy shit including the following:
This concern is further compounded by the fact that, on September 21st, HHS Secretary Alex Azar told FOX Business that all Operation Warp Speed vaccine manufacturers would be exempt from liability for any damages their vaccines may cause and that those who administer those vaccines would also not be liable for damages.
Some folks now think this was a Bio Weapon developed in a Lab and that would explain the Military/CIA/DHS involvement.
Don't know what to believe anymore, it's a clown show from the very beginning....

Citizen's United destroyed journalism by making it for profit propaganda for the wealthy, but its always been under attack.
Journalism has always been under attack from the wealthy robber barons of the time. Rockefeller famously bought out the magazine/newspaper that muckraker Ida Tarbell wrote for after she wrote a damning book about Standard Oil. However, it only hardened her and other muckrakers, who later led to the break up of Standard Oil, term limits, and other restrains on the abuse of power.
I find the parallels between then and now quite striking. Except today's boogeymen have rebranded and call themselves tech billionaires. They got ahead of muckrakers by owning journalism, media, and social media, and have used there Pinkertons (Trust and Safety Teams) to censoring anyone who speaks out against them.
There are good journalists out there though. I think a modern equivalent of Ida Tarbell may be Whitney Webb for writing One Nation under Blackmail about the Epstein Files.

FIFA is full of corruption and connections you might not expect. For example, Epstein and intel agency connections:
"In 2002, [redacted] acquired the rights for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany with her relatively new company [redacted]. The company was best known at this time for its president and chief executive, Philippe Blatter, the nephew of Sepp Blatter, the then president of FIFA. This overt corrupt nepotism left [redacted] as the company to market the TV rights to future major FIFA tournaments. The company went on to acquire the rights to all of FIFA’s World Cups, and even though this deal was watered down in 2006, in 2011 FIFA again gave [redacted] permission to sell the TV rights, in the Asian markets, for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
During her time at [redacted] would be caught flying on Jeffrey Epstein’s “Lolita Express” on three occasions. The first flight recorded, on 22 March 2002, she would share with Epstein, Sean Koo, and one other passenger, but it’s her second trip which really stands out. On Saturday 31 August 2002, Jeffrey Epstein and [redacted] would fly from Paris Le Bourget Airport to Birmingham Airport, in the UK, alone. They would return to Paris, via the same route, on Monday 2 September 2002. For Jeffrey Epstein to fly without any of his normally present entourage is very unusual. So what was happening that weekend? I’ve done a lot of research on these dates, but as of yet, I do not have any answers.

Maintaining free speech will allow people to discuss and shed light on actual—not heavily manufactured—issues like the climate change movement being used as a distraction while banks and corporations implement natural asset corporations. [1]

There is a whole lot more to John Brockman's involvement with Jeffrey Epstein than just Brockman's Edge Foundation:
https://unlimitedhangout.com/2021/05/investigative-reports/the-cover-u…
David Gelernter is a whole other piece of work. He did co-author a pretty good textbook on parallel programming (_How To Write Parallel Programs_), but the guy was basically a huckster when it came to distributed systems research. The real ironic thing is that it can be hard to tell Gelernter's Wall Street Journal op-eds from Kaczynski's manifesto.

I think is potentially more sinister than it seems:
https://unlimitedhangout.com/2021/10/investigative-reports/wall-street…
>A project of the multilateral development banking system, the Rockefeller Foundation and the New York Stock Exchange recently created a new asset class that will put, not just the natural world, but the processes underpinning all life, up for sale under the guise of promoting “sustainability.”
In and of itself a policy giving legal standing to the environment seem really promising — and no doubt in certain instances, that's probably the case. But we should be careful to distinguish between policy nuances and what tradeoffs may be at play.

Its a bit more global then that, but correct:
Natural Asset Corporations
which is by the largest mega-corps in the world.
https://www.hklaw.com/en/insights/publications/2021/11/natural-asset-c…
>According to experts, the financial resources needed to protect natural ecosystems face a dramatic shortfall. With the announcement of NACs, the capital markets continue to respond in novel ways, creating financial mechanisms aimed at protecting, restoring and growing natural areas.
Some will say this is a 'conspiracy' site despite all the sourced connecting quotes, and legal outcomes, related to these vehicles.

My point : you still need somebody smart to set the tone, define the company line, write the basic copy. Then you farm trolls.

Why was this predicted a year ago by NGOs [1]? Do they have some special insight into this that cyber security specialists didn't? Are these kinds of supply-chain attacks at this scale new, or newly enabled? Is this a technically impressive attack, or is this just a bunch of backdoors?
[1] https://unlimitedhangout.com/2021/02/investigative-reports/from-event-…
Quotes below are from a different article from a source that HN won't let me post. Looks like only conspiracy theory sites are applying any scrutiny to this.
> "The simulation, called Cyber Polygon 2021, was announced by Russia’s largest state-run bank Sberbank in February.
> “The key message voiced by experts at WEF and other international platforms is that supply chain security is to become a major cybersecurity issue in 2021,” Sberbank stated. "

I merely saw the domain name 'yarchive' and had a strange inkling that there might be a connection. A quick search yielded this: https://unlimitedhangout.com/2021/08/investigative-reports/the-father-…
I have no opinion of unlimitedhangout.com or the veracity of that article. But in response to "I just find it strange", I'm beginning to associate this sort of intensely intellectual inquiry into disparate topics with equally intense political positions.
I was first introduced to Urbit as if it was a purely technical, humorous and extremely nerdy lark. It was a joke thing my friend got me to sign up for, to own a slice of an imaginary universe (in a quantity called a "frigate" or whatever it was). When I learned years later about how serious the worldview behind it was, I was quite shocked.
Since then, and especially since the NYT outing of Scott Alexander in 2020, I've become more attuned to the pattern. These hyper-analytical blogs often come with a lot of political implications below the surface.
Again, I'm not taking sides here. If anything, the takeaway for me is that the world is very complicated. We have these rare polymath personalities who go deep into topics, have a strong voice on the internet, and they end up with all sorts of valid criticisms of the status quo. This in turn can align with extreme political views.

> There are plenty of wonderful investigative reporters (Whitney Webb is a stellar example right now for example) but the editorial employees of oligarch owned media have marching orders and objectives to meet, so voices like Whitney's are invisible in the 'mainstream media', except to be undermined if their work gets through to an audience.
I spent about a half hour scanning some of her stuff, and I'm getting a strong conspiracy-theorist vibe from that person:

> [Rosa Brooks] was also previously the general counsel to the President of the Open Society Institute, part of the Open Society Foundations (OSF), a controversial organization funded by billionaire George Soros. Zoe Hudson, who is TIP’s director, is also a former top figure at OSF, serving assenior policy analyst and liaison between the foundations and the U.S. government for 11 years.
> OSF ties to the TIP are a red flag for a number of reasons, namely due to the fact that OSF and other Soros-funded organizations played a critical role in fomenting so-called “color revolutions” to overthrow non-aligned governments, particularly during the Obama administration. Examples of OSF’s ties to these manufactured “revolutions” include Ukraine in 2014 and the “Arab Spring,” which began in 2011 and saw several governments in the Middle East and North Africa that were troublesome…
