One of Bill Gates' recommended books (1) was a great read: "Prime Movers of Globalization: The History and Impact of Diesel Engines and Gas Turbines" (2) The very large and very slow rotating diesel engines used to power ships are incredibly efficient. Oil tankers run very slowly, gas a little faster, then bulk carriers, container ships (time value of those containers is higher than commodity oil and bulk, so they move) and fastest and least efficient of all are cruise ships. The size of some of those engines is fantastic. It's really nerdy and awesome. Is this his library in the background? http://i.imgur.com/iqvPs7N.jpg edit: Apparently so, and here's his reading recommendations from 2013 (w/ same library in background): http://www.thegatesnotes.com/Personal/Best-Books-2013 and more: http://www.thegatesnotes.com/Books <- lots of reviews here

This is an article in a newspaper. What did you expect him to talk about?? It's something he's passionate about and the only reason he is in the newspaper is to publicise it. If you want to see other things he's interested in check out his blog[1] (The Gates Notes). He does posts on books he's reading (not all related to disease) and reviews them among other things. I'd like to see someone buy their way onto http://www.thegatesnotes.com/books Although I don't always agree with Bill on whether a book is worth reading or not, it's a reasonable indicator that I'll find it interesting and intellectually stimulating.

I think it would be really interesting to get into his mind occasionally. actually he just tweeted about a blog he started documenting what he's learned through his foundation work: http://www.thegatesnotes.com/

Bill Gates talks about energy (including Nuclear), and investments in the sector here (about 20 mins long) - http://www.thegatesnotes.com/Topics/Energy/Nuclear-Energy-After-Fukush… He mentions his investment and interest in Terrapower briefly towards the end. And another article about Gates' visit to China last year - http://www.thegatesnotes.com/Personal/In-China-Speeding-Toward-the-Fut…

This is doing the rounds on the net too: http://www.thegatesnotes.com/robots.txt It doesn't mention Bing. Amusing, and useless.
