That help article is just for Docs, and is also extremely limited. I suggest you take a look at the G Suite updates blog instead:

You'll be fairly overwhelmed in reading it, I imagine.

Google is trying to kill off classic Hangouts, starting with G Suite and then later consumers. This was started in early 2019 [0] but late last year they shifted timelines.

https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2019/07/limit-access-LSA.html
If the “Enforce access to less secure apps for all users” setting is selected for your domain when this change takes place, we’ll automatically select “Allow users to manage their access to less secure apps” instead. You’ll no longer have the option to enforce access to LSAs at the domain level.
Following this change, if you “Allow users to manage their access to less secure apps,” users will still have the option to access LSAs, provided the “Less secure app access” setting is enabled at the individual user account level. To minimize disruption in domains where we’ve automatically changed the setting from “Enforce access” to “Allow users to manage their access,” this account-level setting will be on by default at the time of the change for all active users of LSAs.

> only Hangouts is a video conferencing application
btw, there are three different versions of Hangouts: Classic, Meet, and Chat. Hangouts Classic will be EOL'd later this year. Hangouts Meet is the video conferencing for business. Hangouts Chat is a Slack clone for business that includes video calling.
Google will transition Hangouts Classic users to Hangouts Chat, not Meet:
https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2019/01/upcoming-hangouts-service…
Google Talk and Google Voice are two other Google products that (used to?) support video calling.

Classic Google Sites will be discontinued in 2021:

Did you use the newish "Present a Chrome tab" feature to do this?
https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2020/04/high-quality-video-audio-…
Normal Google Meet Present is optimized for slides/docs which is a very different problem than streaming video.

When Google shut down Google+ to consumers last year, it was never fully removed for Gsuite users.
Google is branding this as the replacement for Google+ (and sending out emails to Gsuite admins re: content migration from Google+ to Currents)
Here was the announcement of the beta last April: https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2019/04/currents-for-gsuite.html?…

I found out about it on https://killedbygoogle.com/ just now. However, after double-checking, apparently it's some G Suite Hangouts variant that's getting killed: https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2019/08/updates-to-hangouts-chat-…

“Scanners and other devices - No change is required for scanners or other devices using simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) or LSAs to send emails.”
What does that mean?
Isn’t SMTP also uses password for authentication? Or are they referring to SMTP relay which relies of Static IP?

Hangouts was a GSuite (enterprise) service. Customers were forced to move Chat & Meet when they shut down Hangouts.

So, I don't use G Suite. I just have the free consumer Hangouts (without Gmail; deleted that a long time ago .. which after the G+ shutdown, means I can no longer search contact .. weird).
I'm super confused by their blog post:
https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2019/01/upcoming-hangouts-service…
So for regular old consumer Hangouts (formerly part of G+) is that going away too? What happens to the phone number I have attached to it. .. I feel like I should port that way from Google sooner rather than later.

Disclosure: I work for Google Cloud.
We actually introduced “pin code sharing” [1], so that you can share (and even let folks comment and edit) without requiring a Google Account (which to be clear, isn’t actually identical to “GSuite Login”, you can register any email as a Google Account, but I recognize you may not want to).

Perhaps he was indirectly referring to MTA-STS[1] that Google sponsored, co-authored, and recently released in beta?

Hey now, they're "actively working to develop a solution that will enable Hangouts to work in Firefox without a [NPAPI] plugin" [0].
These things take time, you know. Especially with the limited resources of Google, Mozilla not already having announced the deprecation of NPAPI plugins two years ago [1] and there not already being a web standard, mainly pushed by Google, that enables video and audio calling for every modern browser out there [2].

> we are aware of the issue, and are definitely working on it.
I am guessing the fix for this issue would be to download the new Google Backup & Sync app [1][2] that replaces the current Google Drive client and is meant to be released on Wednesday [3]? :)

True. But temporary: https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2017/02/google-hangouts-temporary…
Ironically that's being caused by WebRTC not having compatible enough implementations across all major browsers (and as an aside being disproportionally difficult to debug). Otherwise they would've just dropped the plugin and be done with it much earlier. Though I'm surprised they didn't act earlier.
