designed by https://designmodo.com/ the same company that claims to be "Trusted by the biggest players in the game." adobe, nike, Ikea T-Mobile, microsoft, NASA, google.. I am kind of skeptical about their client list, why would any of these companies use their services that are designed for small business owners?

I've used the Startup Framework Generator[1] for building this style of website. Highly recommended. [1] http://designmodo.com/generator/

I recommend you the WordPress version http://designmodo.com/startup-wordpress/, take a look to this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTN4xvzHUsM

Indeed, polished UI elements tend to be done in Photoshop, while those for AI tend to be for wireframing. Here are a few links: http://developer.yahoo.com/ypatterns/about/stencils/ http://www.webalys.com/design-interface-application-framework.php Note that not all Photoshop is raster, however; shape layers can be used to create vector elements. For example, the following is vector despite being PSD: http://designmodo.com/polaris-free/

It's absolutely fine to be a not-great UX designer. I'm also not a great UX designer. The way you wrote and posted this article, there was an implication to me (and I'm guessing to others) that you think this design philosophy is better than what most other people are doing. The article would benefit from some qualifications, e.g.: "I'm still teaching myself UX and aesthetic design," for example. As it is, it comes across as a strong argument from someone who thinks he's an expert (and thinks other people's design decisions are wrong). In terms of resources, you could take a full-semester class just about typography. Designing UIs is really hard and requires a ton of research. I've spent hundreds of hours over the last 10+ years just reading books and articles, and I still consider myself an amateur. My strong recommendation is to pay someone who is great at UX and understands how to accommodate people with physical disabilities. Even people who are just 40+ years old (and not disabled in any way) are getting significantly less light coming through their retinas, and it's possible to choose fonts and colors that are difficult for them. You can find someone who could revamp your stylesheet in a couple of days, and it shouldn't cost you more than $1k-$2k with the right person on Upwork. You seem to be great at a lot of other things, so why not find someone who has equal depth at UX design? As a generalist myself, I often rely on specialists because it's truly impossible…

Thank you. Also found additional discussion in https://designmodo.com/font-psychology. I'm still skeptical that there is anything intrinsic about the meanings specific fonts convey outside of being used in previous contexts (e.g. conveys "fashionable" because it's overused in fashion industry, per one example). That said, I'm more open to the idea of font psychology now.
AndrianV · 2023-08-28
How about fonts? Like these https://designmodo.com/figma-fonts/

Not every change is based on stylistic fads alone. Rounded corners on elements can increase the ability of users to recognize them and separate them from other elements, because visually the borders are less likely to be confused with other UI elements (lower cognitive load). This article quotes a researcher on this topic: > A rectangle with sharp edges takes indeed a little bit more cognitive visible effort than for example an ellipse of the same size. Our ‘fovea-eye’ is even faster in recording a circle. Edges involve additional neuronal image tools. The process is therefore slowed down.¹ 1: https://designmodo.com/rounded-corners/

I absolutely do. I'm not sure why, it's not something I specifically pay attention to, but I definitely appreciate text in some fonts more than others. For example, I really liked The Economist's print font (and I don't mind the redesign [1]) That said, I once spent a couple weeks trying out various programming fonts/sizes, so maybe I'm an outlier. (I'm on Mac now, and the system Monaco font is fine. I don't remember what I had settled on when I was using Linux until 6 years ago) I have to add that I recently upgraded from a 2k 27" monitor to a 4k one, and the first thing I noticed is how much nicer all the text is (again, macOS) [1] https://designmodo.com/the-economist-redesign/

Always suggest https://designmodo.com/startup/ It was used to build https://rezi.io It took me just 5 days - super fast

>The color yellow can affects us mentally and physically which includes stimulating our mental and nervous system, activates our memory, and encourages communication. Golden yellow carries the promise of a positive future, and spreads its cheer. Especially since yellow shines its optimism, enlightenment, and happiness upon us. Yellow stands out from other colors, and with the support of other lively colors, it can spark one’s creativity while invigorating one’s spirit. In fact, people who suffer from mild cases of color blindness can usually see the color yellow more easily than other colors. https://onextrapixel.com/anatomy-of-colors-in-web-design-yellow-and-th… https://designmodo.com/yellow-color/

It's the colours used in the Flat UI Bootstrap theme: http://designmodo.com/flat-free/

Designmodo has their own UI framework, The Bricks: http://designmodo.com/the-bricks/ Seems a bit close for comfort
BenBradleySmith · 2014-09-25
$1000 is a huge amount of money for what looks like a very basic landing page. In my opinion it would be better to just shell out $150 for the designmodo's startup framework, http://designmodo.com/startup/ and spend an afternoon tailoring it to your needs.
tsudot · 2014-03-27
Is this the one? - http://designmodo.com/startup/ However, these guys are Russians.
LarinBit · 2014-01-10
Hey, have you tried paid version too? http://designmodo.com/startup/
bybjorn · 2013-12-17
The license is called "Developer license" which I at least associate with multiple use, and I don't see them specifically mention "single use only" (although I see that the text can be interpreted that way) .. http://designmodo.com/startup-license/ EDIT: got a reply from them on twitter: https://twitter.com/Designmodo/status/412867217118605313 You were right: "one license - one project."
locusm · 2013-10-22
I think the DesignModo guys set the standard for paid themes with their FlatUI pack which is also Bootstrap based. http://designmodo.com/flat/
siganakis · 2013-09-06
Just a heads up, http://designmodo.com/flat/ crashes safari on iPad (ios6).
nrivadeneira · 2013-08-16
First thing I thought of when I read the name was Designmodo's UI kit "The Bricks" - http://designmodo.com/the-bricks-addons/ When it comes to search, their kit might eclipse yours...at least for the time being.
ceeK · 2013-04-28
Coincidently I came across this a few hours ago from http://designmodo.com/flat-design-colors/ when looking for some quick and easy flat colour palettes for an iOS application. It is no doubt initially confusing, I clicked a colour but had no idea it had copied to the clipboard. Furthermore when it wasn't apparent what the top drop down menu actually did when you didn't know about the copying functionality. Regardless, in the end I got the colours I wanted. Had no idea they were the same colours as from the flat-ui package.
ahmetsulek · 2013-04-28
hey there, whether if you find it useful or not thank you for your interest which led the site down :) people at designmodo are aware of this project and actually they mentioned it on their last blogpost http://designmodo.com/flat-design-colors/ it was not even a side project for me, the thing is I was obsessed with these colors and started to use them a lot, and got bored of the copy - paste progress. I did it because it was useful for me and I shared for those who like the flat ui color as much as I do and I didn't know that it was going to drew this much attention. now moved a cloud server, hope DNS changes will affect soon. at least it was fun to create some mini app mentioned in the hacker news :)
wittyphrasehere · 2013-04-05
The vertical alignment of the text is off and the colors are a bit muddy compared to the vibrant palette of http://designmodo.com/flat-free/ (which was clearly the inspiration for this).
melkisch · 2013-04-05
More stuff available in the same kind of flat design style on http://designmodo.com/flat-free/
saiko-chriskun · 2013-03-20
He's referring to their own download page: http://designmodo.com/flat-free
fuddle · 2013-03-06
It is still available for download on their site: http://designmodo.com/flat-free/
stefanobernardi · 2013-03-06
The reality is that DesignModo is not new to this. I have been waiting for this to happen for a while. Their "Bricks UI" is an extremely blatant copy of Google Ventures' web site, and it's weird nothing happened there. http://www.googleventures.com/ http://designmodo.com/the-bricks-addons/ I'm not on either side, but it's just painful to watch the reactions on HN. It seems like a lot of the commenters were just closed down somewhere waiting for the right occasion to blame some copyright enforcer.
