History suggests this is not correct.
Long-time Mac users have a term for this: Sherlocking[0]
It seems far more likely that a company without an obvious business plan might run out of money trying to sell software that seems to be an unnecessary duplication of features built in to the OS than for Apple to eliminate a feature they've only recently introduced and promoted.
I'm hoping neither happen, and I wish the f.lux team the best, but I definitely think you have the odds the wrong way around.

He is a good developer who sadly seems to be heading into the Apple punditry game. Which comes with a tendency to misstate things. I'll give you one guess who he is emulating from his site design: http://carpeaqua.com/

That's the great thing about having a market and the ability to share this information. You go ahead and buy the Roomba, and I'll just avoid them all together. It's fine. But I'm glad to know that this was on the cards, and plan to vote with my pocket and not buy products that intend to do something like this.
I hate to sound alarmist, but as our world grows increasingly connected, I tend to be a bit cautious as to why I'm giving up this data and for what benefit. I see stories like this (https://carpeaqua.com/2017/07/07/hack-the-planet/) and wouldn't have thought before that my PayPal accounts or other financial information could be at risk because of an AT&T issue, but some criminal was smart and exploited the weak link here.
I don't have any idea as to how criminals in the future will exploit my personal house data in order to steal from me, but just in case they find a way, I'd rather not offer up that data because "who cares".

Usually, when the "what we'd like to see in {iOS,macOS}++" articles come out, it's just a couple weeks before Apple announces the new features and I shake my head because it is already way too late for the feedback to reach Apple.
In this case, if you believe the rumors that development on the new Mac Pro is still very early, it actually seems like articles like this and [1] might do some good.

My Ultimate Developer and Power Users Tool List for OS X (2013 Edition)
> The idea for this list was shamelessly ripped off from Windows developer Scott Hanselman whose list has long been an enjoyable read when he updates it.

Just got my first Mac and I've been looking for this type of articles and general articles for people power users switching to OSX from Windows. While not a definitive guide this one has some good stuff. I was surprised by how few articles there are on this topic.
One of goodies I found around: http://carpeaqua.com/2012/10/15/my-ultimate-developer-and-power-users-…
