> "There isn't really a right or wrong way to Lego." Totally agree, there are so many ways to build and play. I know some people who are collectors, some who are remixers, some build from scratch. Some build big, some build small, etc. (Would also echo the budget comment ;) ) Some other resources I'd recommend: https://www.brothers-brick.com/ and the subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/ . There are also great forum communities out there for different sub-interests.

LEGO bricks are known for their very precise shapes (Only the best is good enough); I doubt they will ever change said shapes without good reason (a green 4x2 has no reason to be shaped differently than a red 4x2, and if they were, it would probably lead to minor visual defects that would be unacceptable). However, an easy way to split by color would be to package bricks in different bags - as said bags have various shapes and textures as well. I was cautiously optimistic until they said unequivocally that they'll be stopping all sales of BrickArms and other fan-made/third-party accessories. (And moralizing about not supporting "warfare and violence" while continuing to sell Lego Indiana Jones sets with rifle-toting Nazis.) This is probably going to kill BrickArms. Most of their sales are through BrickLink. https://www.brothers-brick.com/2019/11/26/news-the-lego-group-acquires…

Not a US company being infringed, but Lego has gotten a Chinese court to order Lepin to stop making imitations of Lego products. [1] Since arrests have been made over Lepin not complying [2], it seems like the ruling has teeth. As far as I understand, a Lego parent company is getting set up (Lego Brand Group) and Knudstorp will be head of that company, while Lego itself will switch focus on just the brick themselves (a bit like the recent Google->Alphabet restructuring).
