My favourite is http://adioso.com, it's even cleaner than Google Flights and it has "Anytime" as a choice for date of departure.

We're growing our faredata outside of the US every day, but we started with the market we know best to make all of our carrier relationships. Keep checking back! In the meantime, if hipmunk doesn't provide you an awesome set of search results to/from Oz, do try http://adioso.com
hartror · 2010-11-28
Two recent high profile examples http://www.atlassian.com/ http://www.adioso.com There are plenty of awesome things happening in the Australian tech scene. Unfortunately the tyranny of distance and lack luster investment and government support means we can struggle a bit to get our message out. I know of a bunch of people with fantastically profitable businesses servicing international user bases that you won't ever hear about. Because they're not in the "scene" they don't get talked about but they're plugging away at their businesses making serious $$.

Maybe https://adioso.com is close to what you want. I found it recently but I have not tried it yet
nagrom · 2014-02-10
Adioso (http://www.adioso.com) seems quite good in that regard. I've had contact with one of the developers from submitting a bug report and they're very friendly and seem on the ball.
Trufa · 2013-06-13
Cool desgin and interesting post, but it's really not worth much if it doesn't find the cheapest flights. http://adioso.com/at/vienna-at-to-ams-june-21-return-june-25 http://web24.checkfelix.com/flugsuche/de/fluege.html?what=results&… Maybe it's not so good yet for european flights?
danso · 2013-06-13
Not just design work though, but also content and features work, which pulls in product development and sometimes, infrastructure people. Responsive/mobile design necessarily makes content disappear or moved around, which can substantially change the function of the site. For example, in Adioso's implementation: http://adioso.com/us/new-york-new-york-to-rome-it-next-month-for-7-to-… ...resizing to the mobile width hides the "Lock Flight" buttons that are normally placed in the far right. So someone had to agree/argue that hiding those buttons was a worthwhile compromise (as opposed to stacking them on the bottom).

Have a look at the scrolling search suggestions on the front of http://adioso.com, then try executing the same searches on Kayak, in a single search. All of them.

I did a search: JHB to Buenos Aires in November for 60 days. http://adioso.com/za/johannesburg-za-to-buenos-aires-cr-in-november-fo… On flysaa.com (Star Alliance member) I can get a cheaper direct flight. Not sure what logic was coded to determine which result receives preference (i.e. ranking) in the results. I also usually use http://flisea.com/ to search for reward flights on Star Alliance airlines. Not sure what API to linking to - perhaps you could check it out. Or perhaps, change the purpose of the site: Find the best available reward flights on One World, Star ALliance and SkyTeam over a specific period of time. It's focused and a big need for frequent travellers

I'm pretty sure that the 88 people [1] who want to go from "MEL to Perth UK" actually want to go the other Perth. Interestingly only 3 have signed up for "MEL to Perth AU" - perhaps you could add some heuristics to your autocomplete? Similarly for "Auckland NZ to Christchurch UK" - people might be getting more than they bargained for there. :) [1] http://adioso.com/following/missing_routes
dorian-graph · 2012-12-23
I noticed that too. For a good, similar website, try http://www.adioso.com/ which is also an Australian startup, Melb based I think. (I'm from Brisbane)
rebelnz · 2011-09-13
These guys almost fulfil that requirement - I use their service pretty regularly. http://adioso.com/
atroche · 2011-09-08
For tracking changes in flight costs, you should probably check out http://adioso.com (YC-funded).
citizenkeys · 2011-05-27
So Google instantly competes with no less than three YC companies: Hipmunk http://www.hipmunk.com/ FlightCaster http://flightcaster.com/ Adioso http://adioso.com/
revorad · 2011-05-26
YC-funded http://adioso.com already does something like this. Don't know how successful they are.
eddmc · 2011-04-08
To your first question, you should take a look at http://adioso.com/ (YC W09) by http://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=tomhoward Has been covered a few times on HN already e.g. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1651737

My use case is "When is it the cheapest to get me out of here?". I can take vacation days at pretty much every date so I do not really care when I go on vacation. The destination does no really matter to me either. Unfortunately, I found Kayak Explorer does not work for this as it does not allow me to see flights at a day for day granularity. http://www.adioso.com does a much better job. I can just search for stuff like "SEA to anywhere" and it will show me what I want.
hbana · 2010-11-13
try http://www.adioso.com - search "<yourcity> to anywhere under <yourbudget>"
henrikschroder · 2010-06-11
That is absolutely fucking awesome! http://adioso.com/se/stockholm-to-beach.html One thing I would love to see is adding larger/fuzzier destination areas such as "the tropics", "the carribean", "the mediterranean", "Africa", "South America", or "Mexico".
tomaitch · 2009-04-18
Did you try searching for "Melbourne to Sydney on Qantas"? It works... http://adioso.com/search/melbourne-to-sydney-qantas.html We'd like to have all the airlines like Emirates, and we will once we're better resourced and properly launched. As for WebJet, we're really trying to do something very different to them, so if they do all you need right now, you're best to stick with them. Our angle is the casual/flexible market, travelers who are price sensitive but date/destination flexible. Kinda the opposite of business travelers. Many thanks for the comments though :)
steveplace · 2009-03-18
Absolutely love the concept. One hangup nitpicking about grammar. See here: http://adioso.com/airport/cheap-flights-sydney.syd.html You have "International Flights to Sydney," but then the list is {Sydney to Aipa, Sydney to Auckland} -> the depart and arrive need to be switched to make sense. The domestic flights have it displayed correctly so it looks like something just got switched around.
justin_vanw · 2013-03-05
All of them? Maybe I misunderstand what you are saying, but if you mean that the random travel searches you scroll on the site are a feature, that is bordering on insane. I don't need to go to some random place for some random duration at some random time. So, since it would be insane to consider random trips to be a useful feature, I assumed that it was recommending certain trips because they were really good deals. Maybe your system figured out I live near San Jose, and recommended me a flight because it was just such a great deal it was worth my time to try that search and maybe go on a vacation on a whim. That would actually be an awesome feature, and I would probably use it a lot! So, benefit of the doubt. So I tested that theory, and here is what I got: http://adioso.com/us/san-jose-california-to-hawaii-hawaii-next-week-fo… Best flight that Adioso found was $535 for that trip. BTW, Expedia never returns on your site. Then I went to Kayak. It took me about 30 seconds to fill it out, and it took me here: http://www.kayak.com/#/flights/SJC,nearby-HNL,OGG,LIH,KOA/2013-03-13-f… So, the best fare that Kayak found was a $277 hacker fare. That's almost exactly half as much as what Adioso found. Sure, that's a hacker fare, and for a 10 day trip not 7 days. Fine, the best fare that is exactly comparable is $350 for a 7 day trip leaving next week round-trip on Delta.

I'm pretty sure you've seen this already: http://adioso.com/blog/2013/06/responsifying-adioso/ I'm reviewing both currently to see what the differences in your approaches are.
NoPiece · 2013-03-05
http://adioso.com/us/oakland-california-to-maui-hawaii-in-august-direc… Gives me fares of $772, $841, and $940 (expedia is not responding) Checking Google Flights, I see if I leave later in August, I can fly for as low as $443. https://www.google.com/flights/#search;f=OAK;t=OGG;d=2013-08-22;r=2013… The search style you have is nice, but it is most important to me to get an accurate low fare! And speed really matters too...
deanclatworthy · 2013-01-18
I really really like the fact you are using natural language to try and simplify these kinds of queries. However, your service appears to be quite buggy. http://adioso.com/fi/helsinki-fi-to-birmingham-uk-between-may-1-and-se… - If there is a 1 stop filter, it covers the top of the page - On this search result, I cannot advance more than one calendar month. - Where do I sort by the cheapest flight? Are you only writing queries on top of expedia? If not why does it say "Loading expedia calendar" at the top.
mariuskempe · 2011-02-08
Go to http://adioso.com/search?q=A+hard+search+query in an incognito window or similar - you have to have not visited before. A bar comes up at the top of the page saying that the interface "can be a little confusing". I have no thoughts on the interface per se, I just think that if you have to admit that your interface is confusing, you've already lost.
thenduks · 2011-02-08
That only happens if you end up with no results (eg, you didn't really grasp what to search for). Eg: http://adioso.com/search?q=france -- does not show that bar.
