I started building a Slack bot just to get notified when GitHub is down. And then found out that it already exists: https://statusgator.com/ This saves me the recurring "is GitHub working for you" type of discussion. Or just wasting time trying to use GitHub when it's not fully operational. 100% recommended.

I have a few revenue-generating side projects, most notably StatusGator[1] which monitors status pages. But the problem I always have with selling side projects is that they are worth a lot more to me in emotional value than they are actually worth monetarily. I've put a lot of heart and soul into StatusGator, not to mention a lot of time, and selling it for what it's worth based on monthly revenue ($1k/month) wouldn't nearly cover that emotional value. And so I hang on to it. 1. https://statusgator.com

Interesting. What's the difference from https://statusgator.com/ ?

Hi Eric, Congratulations on your startup! There is at least one big tool that does exactly the same you wrote. It is called StatusGator https://statusgator.com There are at least 3 much smaller ones. Have you tried any of them? If yes, what's your point of difference? And how do you plan to market it? As I see the plans are cheap, means your LTV is low.

Not to take away from your project, but check out https://statusgator.com/

From his profile https://statusgator.com/features/early-warning-signals This info page only references thousands per minute. Over a day that could go over millions. And while not explicitly stated, I think the source is social media. Eg Twitter and similar.

Seems like the outage started a 4PM UTC https://statusgator.com/services/signal

Status says everything is fine, but the site is inaccessible for me, yet downdetector and statusgator say there are issues. https://statusgator.com/services/bitbucket https://downdetector.co.uk/status/bitbucket/

I'm still seeing some sites not working - ironically they're down detectors: https://statusfield.com/status/cloudflare https://statusgator.com/services/cloudflare

They lie. Meta ad deliver has been completely fucked for about two months, and they rarely update their status page [1]. When they do, they update with "medium disruptions" hours late and then with "resolved" hours before actually solving. I could understand the "resolved" before because of "web scale" and deploying slowly. This third partt status page reflects the issues much better [2]. "Has GitHub Been Down More Since Its Acquisition by Microsoft?" - https://statusgator.com/blog/has-github-been-down-more-since-its-acqui… "... In the two years since the acquisition announcement, GitHub has reported a 41% increase in status page incidents. Furthermore, there has been a 97% increase in incident minutes, compared to the two years prior to the announcement..."

Does anyone have real, contemporary numbers on this? Your observation matches my intuition, and I've seen some stats around the first two years after the acquisition¹, but I don't know any good up-to-date analysis on the question. My intuition aligns too closely with my known biases here for me to be satisfied with that alone. 1: https://statusgator.com/blog/has-github-been-down-more-since-its-acqui…
