I've found Pop!_OS 24.04 beta, with COSMIC, to be more suitable for my preferences than Omarchy. You get the best of both worlds -- hybrid tiling experience. You can toggle between tiling (like Hyprland) and regular desktop environment (like GNOME). https://srid.ca/pop-os

Here are my two favorite (bookmarked) links for packaging and developing for rust. The trick is keep packaging and rust development separate and use specific dev environment flakes. So for dev work just bring cargo and rust as the nativeBuildInputs in mkShell (and any non rust dependencies) and then use standard cargo for development. But for packaging use one of the fancy tools. 1. https://srid.ca/rust-nix 2. https://discourse.nixos.org/t/cargo2nix-dramatically-simpler...

We use Neuron (https://www.srid.ca/). Neuron also is available as a service (https://beta.cerveau.app/) similar to ReadTheDocs (https://readthedocs.org/). All content is a markdown document (think 'portability' vs. alternative systems where content is more tightly integrated with the service). MD docs are easily linked to build a network of ideas over time. All instances are generated from our GitHub repos where different users can thread their collaboration on shared content. We use Neuron as a staging area to collect cheatsheets, light-weight 'how to' instructions and blogs. As ideas and cheatsheets 'take shape' we formalize them on a Sphinx platform (the same technology used by ReadTheDocs). We're a Python shop, which is why we use Sphinx. In our tests, creating and editing content on Neuron/Cerveau takes 70% of the effort of using Roam. We use conventional editors (ranging from Atom to NP++; everyone has their own idea about 'the editor'); not EMACS or VIM. Some EMACS/VIM users seem to prefer other KM techniques that plug into those editors. NP++ and Atom both have MD preview panels.

You are not allowed to have a moderate opinion on gender representation in tech, and you are not allowed to have photos of steak on your NixOS discussion forum profile: https://srid.ca/nixos-mod

> https://srid.ca/unwoke i mean, this is a set of opinions and positions that are far beyond anything that could be called "moderate opinion[s] on gender representation" and are pretty uncontroversially terrible, particularly in the context of any non-homogeneous community of people if you post something like this to the public internet and stand behind it, then man i'm not sure what you expect, you're self-identifying as an asshole, and it can't be surprising when you're banned from places as a consequence edit: good lord, i clicked around a bit more on that website, dude is obviously a psychopath, and i feel duped even responding to this kind of nonsense

It's in the thread I linked, the very post you quoted. He started a poll to ask if he should be banned over him posting the "unwoke" page of his digital garden, when the stipulation he already preliminarily agreed to was to not bring it up in Nix spaces. An organization that allows for persistent relitigating and rules-lawyering can't have effective moderation (they're not countries after all), do I don't know what you think the alternative is. And now the same people that want (impossibly) apolitical spaces want this guy to also be able to post this very political rant that you've probably heard before somewhere in some form, that everyone else is endlessly tired of. https://srid.ca/unwoke - in case you are missing more context.

>It's in the thread I linked, the very post you quoted. He started a poll to ask if he should be banned over him posting the "unwoke" page Except he didn't post it, he had it in his profile. This is a key distinction. >And now the same people that want (impossibly) apolitical spaces It's not impossible, it's something we had before the rise of Newchurch [0], and it's something mission driven communities are moving towards. >want this guy to also be able to post this very political rant that you've probably heard before somewhere in some form, that everyone else is endlessly tired of. I agree in general people are endlessly tired of "politics" that are orthogonal to the mission at hand. No one is asking for what you just claimed. >https://srid.ca/unwoke - in case you are missing more context. Nothing there is alarming, it's pretty benign and aligns with the direction of many leaders in the industry [1]. You may consider this view biased, but we have this: https://srid.ca/nixos-mod * September 2023: The "Nix Community Survey 2023" is looking for gender data, and the mods don't like that most contributors are men. * November 2023: The moderation team tries to institute a Code of Conduct https://github.com/NixOS/rfcs/pull/114 ... and they get their way * November 2023: Some are not happy about it: https://discourse.nixos.org/t/moderation-team-accountability-issues/35… -- the moderators talk about their "authority" and of course lock and hide the thread. It's "disruptive" and "off-topic", you see. * This sort of activity continues -- moderators consolidating and increasing their power, citing how they need the power to control "concern trolls" and such -- and now in April 2024, we get https://save-nix-together.org/ The "anonymous contributors" want to drive out the NixOS founder entirely, so that _they_ are in charge. They want "to hold people accountable for bad behaviour at all levels" and lament having "responsibility without authority" - in other words, they want power, power, power. They want power over everyone. Their justification is that they believe they have the moral high ground, and they deserve to lord it over everyone else. Hold onto that hard power, Eelco, and tell this lot to fork the project. Let's see how they enjoy moderating noxious.org instead of nixos.org
