You can use Whisper to transcribe the audio to text locally on the mac.
You have a great Open-source implementation named whisper.cpp and a few graphical user interfaces for it:
https://github.com/ggerganov/whisper.cpp

Personally I use MacWhisper pro because it’s very convenient.

Amazing AI by Sindre Sorhus uses Apples port of Stable Diffusion to the neural engine.

Wonder how it compares to ‘Amazing AI;’ a native Mac app for Stable Diffusion I stumbled into earlier today.

People like Sindre Sorhus (https://sindresorhus.com) are, but I'd say survivorship bias comes into play here, he's more of an exception than a rule.

I've been amazed almost every single day since I installed it few months ago by how useful and well done Dato on macOS is.
https://sindresorhus.com/dato
It fixes one of my main issue with macOS, its inability to show a calendar by clicking on the day in status bar, and adds tons of great feature without feeling bloaty. Great great job. Thank you Sindre Sorhus for making my life easier !

Personally, I do but I believe a solo entrepreneur will have to work harder. Check out https://sindresorhus.com for instance. He makes simple and beautiful apps.

This really seems like a rich-getting-richer sort of deal.
It recommends Sindre Sorhus, who already gets over $10K/month via Github Sponsors [0].
If you're interested in making this sort of funding viable, it would be better to give your money to someone else, maybe to allow them to do it full-time or part-time?
Github itself also likes recommending already popular people.

I recommend Dato [1] for joining zoom meetings quickly from the menu bar. And it does all the Itsycal stuff too. It's a $6.99 one-time purchase.

117 comments and Dato[0] isn't mentioned. Works great for me, I replaced the Fantastical menu bar with it 6 months ago. One-time cost.

I've been rolling an idea around my head to interview and write up stories on some of these people. Here are some that fit (or come close to fitting) your description that I've been talking to:

Excellent example use in the wild thanks, demonstrates your point well. And good to see list.js in the list. Bower rules.

A similar app in this space that I discovered recently is Supercharge.
https://sindresorhus.com/supercharge
I was skeptical that I’d find it useful since I can do all of these shell commands and such, but one feature I like is being able to effectively pare the feature set down to just what you need, making for a small but very useful menu.
akmann · 2025-09-29
The app looks good and i like the idea of not ignorable fullscreen reminders but a 35€/year subscription is too much for me…
Just to mention it, there is a macOS app called Dato which can do the same (fullscreen notifications) but on mac. https://sindresorhus.com/dato

Moving files from Downloads to a specified archive folder every x days is also a “side“ feature of https://sindresorhus.com/supercharge
hispanus · 2025-05-12
If anyone is searching for a way to do this in macOS, the dato[1] app implements this rather nicely

Yap, you can use this I believe. https://sindresorhus.com/velja

I use Supercharge for this. Creates a new text file with ⌥+N. Lots of other handy tweaks as well.

There's an app from Sindre Sorhus that adds CMD+X functionality to Finder.

For people on macOS, the free app Aiko on the App Store makes it easy to use Whisper, if you want a GUI: https://sindresorhus.com/aiko
ilt · 2024-08-09
I currently use Aiko’s free iOS app which does offline transcription using OpenAI’s Whisper model. It has been working pretty well for me so far. It can export in formats like SRT, TXT, CSV, JSON and text with timestamps too. https://sindresorhus.com/aiko

> With iOS 17.4 in the EU, you can no longer make a web app (PWA) that uses a full screen window with no browser ui controls.
Are you sure? Go to https://sindresorhus.com/screenfull/, tap "Request", and you should see a full-screen website. Any [website|webapp|PWA] can do this with Safari. (Screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/CTWFPol) Third-party browsers using their own browser engines can do whatever they like.
> How do you expect them to make push notifications work with PWAs?
Third-party browsers using their own browser engine will have to create their own support for web notifications, just as Apple does for Safari. Presumably, they'll leverage the same infrastructure they use on non-iOS platforms.

Weird question, but it seems similar to me; do you know how it compares to Dato?
https://sindresorhus.com/dato
lakpan · 2023-12-17
Pretty sure that exists already. I’ve been using this in a similar way: https://sindresorhus.com/one-thing

Yes. Yes. Yes. A million times, yes. I can't stress this enough: always put visible timestamps on all content (be it web or otherwise, online or offline) and current version number for any kind of software (apps, libraries, frameworks, etc.) on their info / landing / documentation pages.
It should be immediately visible if a certain content is dated or not.
Some examples of software-related landing pages:
https://sindresorhus.com/caprine/ (Caprine app) - shows current version number
https://riot.js.org/ (Riot.js framework) - shows NPM badge with latest version number
...
it's not so hard now, is it?

EDIT: doesn't seem to work if I have devtools as a separate window
runlevel1 · 2023-03-20
Sure does!
Give it a try: https://sindresorhus.com/devtools-detect/
For some reason it failed to flag it for one of my attempts, but it consistently flagged it for all the others.
satvikpendem · 2022-12-30
As I said in another comment, not sure what you mean, the landing page has a screenshot: https://sindresorhus.com/apps/one-thing/screenshot1.jpg
