Mark my words these guys are gonna be huge. Sure they are lacking in a lot of areas (like bananas mentions) but thats why you get VC funding and hire a badass like Jeff Lindsay (http://progrium.com)
I'm really excited to see these dudes take on AWS with a higher-level and more performant platform.
Titanous · 2013-07-18
Nope, Jeff Lindsay (http://progrium.com) is the other half of the team.

+1 for localtunnel. It's a great service and really easy to use. I've seen similar ones that cost money, but as far as I know localtunnel is still free to use.

So, I wrote Dokku, helped design Docker, was co-architect of Flynn, and am now in R&D partnership with Deis. I also made Localtunnel, RequestBin, Hacker Dojo, etc etc if anybody is keeping track. I guess I'm not who this question was intended for, but I figured I'd share some context.
I can't speak as much to Flynn right now, but here is a fairly recent blog post about the current status of Dokku:
http://progrium.com/blog/2014/10/28/deis-breathes-new-life-into-dokku/
tl;dr, after a long lull between 2013 and 2014, its activity has picked up and is slowly working towards a 1.0 including a major refactoring to address a lot of issues and bring it up to modern standards. In fact, here is our refactoring doc in progress:
https://github.com/progrium/dokku/wiki/Refactoring
I feel the flaws of these projects quite deeply, especially Dokku. But I'm surprised to still run into so many people (just not as many here) that really love Dokku. Without them I would not be motivated to come back to it and make it what it should be.
Keep in mind Dokku was the first killer app for Docker and a lot of my design influence on Docker was to be able to easily make something like Dokku and eventually systems like Flynn, Deis, etc. But also so many other things...

He doesn't have much to do with Flynn either these days...

Actually after Jeff Lindsay latest blog post[0] I thought that the project was put on the back burner. What is the relationship between cupcake and the initial author(s) ?

I'm confused, there is an existing project called localtunnel that does exactly the same thing and dominates search results for "localtunnel". At the very least, pick a different name.

Isn’t the node.js version of the ruby one ? ie: http://progrium.com/localtunnel/
Or the Go version: https://github.com/inconshreveable/ngrok
tlrobinson · 2014-02-27
So basically localtunnel (http://progrium.com/localtunnel/), but integrated into Vagrant? Plus some SSH magic.

What are the advantages/disadvantages compared to Dokku (http://progrium.com/blog/2013/06/19/dokku-the-smallest-paas-implementa… It is also based on Docker, super easy to set up on your own server and: Available today.

Similar stuff:
Pagekite (https://pagekite.net/)
Localtunnel (http://progrium.com/localtunnel/)
zhemao · 2013-06-26
Were you aware of localtunnel "http://progrium.com/localtunnel/" before you started this project? I think it does sort of the same thing. Obviously you have a lot more features than localtunnel does (SSL, HTTP Auth, Raw TCP/UDP tunneling), but it's something to be aware of.
poteto · 2012-10-12
Alternatively there's the localtunnel gem which is good for quick sharing - http://progrium.com/localtunnel/
PageKite looks a lot more powerful though.

Pretty much every developer got access to web server. Why not just use ssh tunnels?
ssh -f -N -q -R 123:localhost:80 [email protected]
The only difference is that your website will be on different port, e.g. remote.example.com:123
For me it is much easier to setup, cost 0$ vs. >= 4$ / month. I do not have to trust someone to run some random code with root privileges...
Am I missing something? The number of website which offer something that substitute ssh tunnel is astonishing.
Anyway, there is also free version by twilio:
