Kory Becker writes about artificial intelligence, genetic programming, quantum computing, and software development, often with working code.

What HN saysHN commenters link his posts on self-modifying programs and genetic algorithms writing brainfuck, though one says the model is too simplistic.

There is actually a pretty good blog post series that creates a hello world in brainfuck with genetic algorithms: https://www.primaryobjects.com/2013/03/04/pushing-the-limits-of-self-p…

Ahh yes, this is very interesting although I agree with many of the posters here that the model is probably too simplistic even for demo purposes. For programmers there are even more striking examples of AI out there, complete with code, documentation and explanations. Check this out: http://www.primaryobjects.com/2013/01/27/using-artificial-intelligence… In me this sparked a months long fascination with genetic algorithms solving programming puzzles with a few sets of 'initial memory states' and 'desired memory states'. The articles start with very simplistic generated programs, and end with a sophisticated model able to generate guess-the-number games using loops, conditionals and handling input from users.

Have you seen this project yet? I only thought of this link while reading the last part of your sentence (the AI writes a program with very similar output). Self-Programming Artificial Intelligence Learns to Use Functions http://www.primaryobjects.com/CMS/Article163
