Excellent user experience using a Logitech MX Master 3S with Mos and ScrollReverser. https://mos.caldis.me/ https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/

If you're on a Mac, I highly recommend PopClip (https://pilotmoon.com/popclip/). It works on any text you can select — across the whole OS. It's also context aware (so it knows if you're selecting a URL vs. regular text, for example). There are plenty of plugins already available, but it's also possible to create your own very easily. I had a quick Google and it seems there are similar apps available for Windows, but I don't know anything about them.

I use PopClip[0] (recommended above). One of the extensions you can download sends whatever you've selected to Google Translate. Don't need it often, but it's fantastic when I do. 0: https://pilotmoon.com/popclip/

User for >4 years. Absolutely love the nifty little tool. But I hated opening up a terminal each time I wanted to initiate a download. For PopClip[1] users on Mac, I made a little YouTube-dl extension[2] which lets you initiate the download just by selecting the video URL (best when done from browser's address bar) and clicking a button. Been using it as my primary ytdl client for past 5 months now. [1]: https://pilotmoon.com/popclip/ [2]: https://github.com/k4rtik/popclip-ytdl

Check out Scroll Reverser; it's a tiny, open source app that solves exactly this. There are some other alternatives like BetterTouchTool if you want some other changes like gestures, but as far as this specific problem goes you can just `brew install scroll-reverser`, set up the settings you want and forget about it. Life is too short to deal with this nonsense which is clearly designed to sell the Magic Mouse. https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/

I mean I use rectangle, and used spectacle before it, and I’m very grateful to the developers for maintaining it and making it available for free, but this really should be part of the OS and I will be very happy to get rid of that app after updating to Sequoia. I also use an app that reverses the scroll direction of an attached USB mouse, without affecting the (natural) trackpad scroll direction, because MacOS does not allow changing them independently (looks like they are separate options for mouse and trackpad but they are in fact the same). The App is called Scroll Reverser [1] it is free and works flawlessly, but it really should not have to exist, it’s ridiculous. [1] https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/

Scroll Reverser might work: https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/

Thanks for mentioning LinearMouse. I've previously used Scroll Reverser so it's nice to hear of other options in this space.[0] [0] https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/

I agree with you 100%. This software accomplishes that: https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/

Hated that I couldn't flip scroll direction because I wanted the trackpad to be natural and mouse to be inverted. Found this: https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/

I have this exact preference as well, and my solution was this little utility app: https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/ Being a Mac user for many years, I’ve found that there’s almost always been some simple app that I’ve been able to find that can fit my UX preferences.

Could also be a PopClip extension: https://pilotmoon.com/popclip/extensions/

Thank you. I've been using Scroll Reverser[1], but it hasn't been updated to fully support Catalina (it works, but the installation process was not updated to request the permissions in Catalina). I'll check out UnnaturalScrollWheels to see if it's a good replacement. [1] https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/

Looks somewhat similar to Popclip[0], but is less intrusive(user needs to be explicit) and more visual(result is shown below). Very interesting solution for text manipulation. (A bit off topic but...) Seeing these tools which primary interaction happens with the clipboard make me think that the GUI equivalent of UNIX pipes is the clipboard — it allows programs to interoperate in an unstructured fashion. [0]: https://pilotmoon.com/popclip/ [edit]: fixed typo & changed some words to convey my meaning better.

I haven't used it but try: "Scroll Reverser is a free Mac app that reverses the direction of scrolling. It is available for macOS 10.4 through 10.13. It has independent settings for trackpads, mice and Wacom tablets, and for horizontal and vertical scrolling. " https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/

(I have not tried either of these solutions, so I'm not sure if they actually work.) Although still separate applications, Karabiner and Scroll Reverser are both free. (I mention this since you stated having to "pay for an app".) (1) Karabiner: https://pqrs.org/osx/karabiner/ → Cf. Kellen Mace, "Separate Trackpad & Mouse Natural Scrolling in Mac OS X" (2014) https://kellenmace.com/automate-trackpad-mouse-natural-scrolling-in-ma… (2) Scroll Reverser: http://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/

> You can change the way the scroll works from your Mac Settings, same goes for the power options. It only works for a single device. So if you want to keep natural scrolling on the trackpad and use regular scrolling on a external mouse, you can't. For some reasons the two checkboxes for this (even under different panes) are linked. https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/

I know some software maintainers who might disagree. But I like PopClip (https://pilotmoon.com/popclip/) as an enhancement on top of that one.
zevyoura · 2014-04-30
Check out Scroll Reverser[0], it allows you to reverse just one input. [0] https://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/
deong · 2013-08-27
I use PopClip (http://pilotmoon.com/popclip/) on my Macs. It's not quite as seamless as having everything you select automatically available for middle-click pasting, but it's pretty close.

I dunno, I have tried it, and it was ok after a bit on the touchpad. Then I plugged in a mouse. Did not work at all. I could not use it like that. So now I have scroll reverser[1] to scroll that way with just the trackpad. But really, I was flipping back and forth with the settings (there was something weird with the back/forward swipes for browsers) I don't even know which way it is right now. But it doesn't matter, as soon as I start moving it I can get feedback and do it correctly. So I can get used to having it flipped on me rather quickly. I might make some false starts. btw, you can test drive Lion's new scrolling behavior on Leopard and Snow Leopard with the free app "Scroll Reverser": http://pilotmoon.com/scrollreverser/
