I've used http://pickydomains.com a few times. You pay $50 and provide information on what you're looking for (names you like, etc.). They brainstorm names. If they find one you like, they keep the money. Otherwise, they refund it. We used them when brainstorming Tumblon (http://tumblon.com) and Zencoder (http://zencoder.tv). In both cases, they didn't come up with the final name we used, but they came close and gave us some inspiration for our final name. Most of the suggestions aren't any good, but when you get 100+ suggestions, a few are usually worthwhile.

description: If you need a great, memorable, easy to pronounce domain name that EXACTLY describes what your website is all about - you are in the right place. This is what we do. We find available domain names that are descriptive, concise and are easily remembered. And if we can’t find one, or you don’t like any available domain names we suggest – you don’t pay anything. PickyDomains.Com is completely RISK FREE.

I highly recommend http://www.pickydomains.com/
Cheap and it worked like a charm, some really great suggestions.
(Admittedly, you're looking for a name but sometimes that and a domain are interdependent)

I used this service when I could not dream up a cool domain name. http://www.pickydomains.com/ It works wonderfully and real people think up your domain name. Its well worth the $50 and also one of the coolest simplest startup ideas I have seen in a while.

There's already a service called Picky Domains at http://www.pickydomains.com/ where you pay a deposit in exchange for suggestions for names from their contributors.
If you see a name you like, you register it yourself and the site pockets half the fee, with the other half going to the contributor.

http://pickydomains.com -> $50 gets you an (almost) endless supply of pretty good domain name suggestions from a large number of experienced domainers. Your $50 is returned if you don't get any suggestions that you select.

http://pickydomains.com/ for $50 you can crowd-source it.

I noticed they are soliciting reviews (read: links) to their site and paying for them:

...including a requirement that the site have a PageRank of 2. Is this consistent with Google policies or are they going to get dinged down the results because of this behavior?

This article was written in February 2007. The author, Dmitri Davydov, founded PickyDomains.com and promotes it from elsewhere on nichegeek.com (see the front page, for example).
The current incarnation of PickyDomains' service is at id 722 (http://pickydomains.com/node/722), and started at 15 (http://pickydomains.com/node/15). Assuming continuous ids and no refunds, 707 domains have been processed on the site since April 2007, yielding $17K in revenue for the site and $17K in payouts. It's possible there are other revenue streams -- via domain registration affiliate programs for one -- but six figures is unreasonable unless I'm missing something.
