+1 for adwords & rapportive. >> ... tool that no sales team should omit. i'd add olark[1] & nerdydata[2] to that list as well. I even have a SaaS product built, but yet to deploy - I'm testing the following way: ...i put a "pre-order" or "buy" via gumroad widget, and will start deploying once i have my first purchase. just stats on how many people go down the funnel[3]( clicked the "for companies" link, # who viewed price, # who clicked "i want this" is worth the 10 mins setting up your product on gumroad ... ~B @verbsapp [1] http://olark.com [2] http://nerdydata.com [3] http://gum.co/wvFqR

We use Olark (http://www.olark.com/) on hackerjobs.co.uk and even though we use the most basic, free service, I've found it to be fantastic. Plenty of customisable options, even on the free account. I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to recommend it.

I highly recommend http://www.olark.com -- but I am biased. If you already use an IM program, it's hard to beat being able to monitor visitors right in your buddy list.

I've heard great things about http://olark.com Everyone raves about them and they're YC alumni.

Olark < https://www.olark.com > | SF, Ann Arbor | Full-time | REMOTE (PST timezone though) == About Us == Olark was founded with the goal of helping small businesses create deeper (and more human!) connections with their customers. Since our initial funding from Y Combinator in 2009, we have bootstrapped a profitable company centered around a simple, powerful, and beautiful chat product that 9000+ businesses use every day to talk to customers. We believe our positive, participatory, and peer-driven team culture plays a big part in driving our growing success. Come chat with us about it! == Positions == Are you fanatical about providing great customer support and have meticulous attention to detail? Olark is looking for a new member to join our crack support team, doing front line chat and email support. We're specifically looking for someone comfortable identifying and debugging HTML, CSS + JS issues, reading through logs, and discovering issues with third party integrations and webhooks. My company uses Olark and loves the integration with gchat. As a developer, I like the Olark API: http://www.olark.com/documentation

The great thing about Olark is it can be very humanizing if you let it. Its pretty powerful to tell a customer at 3am: "Hey, this is definitely a problem. I've marked it in our issue tracking software, but its 3am here and I am about to pass out. Is it okay if I email you tomorrow with a fix?". I wonder if that isn't more effective than just instantly fixing the problem at hand... One really awesome thing we did at Zapier is add a custom Olark !info command that pulls up various stats of the user, like what plan they are on, how long they've had an account, links to their profile in the admin, etc... It has been crazy useful. Check out their awesome JS API [1]. Also, Olark is worth every penny. If it isn't installed on your site today, you are doing it wrong (especially if you are still figuring out your product). [1] https://www.olark.com/documentation

Matt here: I work on a lot of our JS here at Olark - would love to dig into any loading issues you saw! We spent a lot of time ensuring that our latest stuff loads async (http://www.olark.com/spw/2011/10/lightningjs-safe-fast-and-asynchronou… so it'd be great to ensure that we're actually succeeding there :) Feel free to come on over and chat, or shoot an email to support[at]olark.com

Do you mean review your idea? Because this isn't a startup yet--the app hasn't even launched. How does this differ from Olark? [0] [0] http://www.olark.com/

http://www.olark.com It works with existing clients like gchat, etc. I've used this on 3 or 4 of my websites and it works really well. They also have a free version for one operator.

Perhaps a support chat service like Olark[1] would be easier than a phone number. [1] http://www.olark.com/

If you're talking about live chat support via your website, where your secretary could be running a chat program in the background, a YC company that has a good product is http://www.olark.com/
aymeric · 2009-11-04
Not really a chat as it is a shoutbox, but I use http://www.shoutmix.com/ in my facebook apps. Really easy to integrate. If you want a chat between you and your users, I know that MixPanel (http://www.mixpanel.com) is using http://www.olark.com/

Olark - Palo Alto, CA; Ann Arbor, MI; remote ok - Full Time ### Who is Olark? Simply, we're the people that put live chat on thousands of websites across the Internet. More than that, we're helping businesses scale their personal touch to the Internet, as the lines between customer discovery, sales, and support blur. ### Who are we looking for? (details on http://www.olark.com/jobs) - Ruby on Rails Engineer / Architect: you've worked before on an at-scale Rails app and love making it easier for our customers to use our app and make it easier for your fellow developers to contribute improvements. - Graphic Designer: you'd like to apply your understanding of both functionality and aesthetic to improve our website and chat window. - Marketing Communications: you'll help us educate the world about how the meaning of customer service is changing ### What's our culture like? - Our all-hands retreat in August combined team outings (winery tours / biking / canoeing) with talking about the future of interacting with customers and how we were going to change it. - Engaging with our customers! At conferences, answering e-mailed questions, and (of course) chatting with them on Olark. Interacting with our customers has repeatedly gave us insights that couldn't have come from simply writing code. - We have project-based teams that shift (roughly) quarterly. We want to give our teams enough time to make sizable changes, but experience has taught us that iterations need an end…

I have not yet looked into the code but if it's using glibc and corresponding getdents code path with suboptimal buffers, it most probably will be slower then ls. more information about the getdents buffer issue: https://www.olark.com/developers-corner/you-can-list-a-directory-with-… Again, beware before downvoting me to oblivion I have not yet looked into the code.

It looks like you can load Olark into any DOM element[0] now - perhaps that'd help? [0] https://www.olark.com/api#box.inline
laurex · 2014-06-19
Totally true. Our founders learned this too, there is a story about it here. http://www.olark.com/customers/why-we-do-all-hands-support. Ultimately the lessons you learn doing support apply to anyone on the team who deal with product or customers (i.e. pretty much everyone).
watadoo · 2013-01-18
There are many more ways of responding to a "f* you" than, telling them they are not very nice. He just drove a customer away with all his responses. A few hints from a blog post I wrote on dealing with angry customers just two weeks ago: http://www.olark.com/blog/2013/how-i-chat-part-3-dealing-with-angry-cu…
jinx_xnij · 2012-12-12
I find I can handle multiple chats at once easily using programs like TextExpander(Mac) or Breevy(Win). That way, if someone needs a specific walkthrough, I can type something like oguide and it automatically pastes this link: https://www.olark.com/help/guide Then if you model your support system around making the walkthroughs and guides for the most common user issues, it makes juggling chats much easier.

Olark - YC S09 - Ann Arbor, MI (http://olark.com/jobs) is looking for a DevOps engineer. We're growing fast and we need somebody to help our infrastructure keep up. We're profitable and you'd be #12 on the team. You'd be doing infrastructure automation with puppet, helping us scale our messaging infrastructure so we can grow, and building tools to help us monitor our servers and our business. For the curious, we use: Python, Ruby/Rails, Thrift, ejabberd, rabbitmq/amqp, mysql, mongodb, couchdb, redis, node, and more! Check out the link above for more info on the position and to apply.
