Compare OS X Lion's mission control[1] with gnome 3's dash[2]. By the time I switched to Linux, I never used the dock, instead launching applications with Alfred/spotlight (and switching with some combination of cmd+tab, mission control, and spaces track pad gestures). Gnome 3 maps super+tab to alt+tab which was great for my muscle memory since my super key was where my command key used to be. What I found annoying about gnome 3 was the persistent useless panel at the top of the screen (I still use gnome at work and I use the dash-to-panel extension[3] to make it slightly less useless). VLC was available on the App Store for a very limited time. It was pulled over licensing issues: http://obamapacman.com/2011/01/vicious-nokia-employee-gets-vlc-removed…

Here is a referenced blog post, that also discusses the lawsuit: http://obamapacman.com/2010/03/myth-copyright-theft-apple-stole-gui-fr…

It seems that Apple did financially compensate Xerox for both the visit and the ideas: "Fact: Apple obtained permission ahead of the Xerox PARC visit. In addition, Apple provided compensation in exchange for the various Xerox PARC ideas such as the GUI" http://obamapacman.com/2010/03/myth-copyright-theft-apple-stole-gui-fr…

Please read this article[0] and educate yourself. The amount of misinformation surrounding the Apple-Xerox relationship is dizzying. edit: this article[1] is a bit briefer, and provides much of the same information. Why this site name? Obama has a Mac, and his Mac has a Pacman on it. Originally OP is going to be a site on both Apple / Obama news, but there are just so many interesting Apple stories so we scrapped the non-Apple part. PS. Thinking of changing site name. So if you have any ideas, please contact us. http://obamapacman.com/2010/07/pacman-birthday-cupcake-obamapacman-com…

> I'm totally on board with apple not owning rounded rectangles.. This isn't a question about Apple owning rounded rectangles - unless they happen to be phones and tablets. This rounded rectangle thing has gotten a little out of hand. It's easy to see why Samsung has framed it in this manner; because, of course, Apple couldn't 'own a rectangle with rounded corners', how absurd! Does that mean Apple owns tv remote controls, or keyboards or all the other rectangles with rounded corners on them?! But that's a false argument and analogy. Apple is not going after keyboards, tv remotes, etc. They are going after Samsung's copied phones and tablets. It's that simple and to dream up analogies is to try to derail the real issue. However, if some still feel that Samsung is an inventive company that would never outright steal any ideas, all you have to do is look at some of these examples: App store icons: http://obamapacman.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Samsung-Mobile-Italy… Black iphone cables: http://cdn.mactrast.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Samsung-Apple-Cable… Black iphone square charger: http://site.accessorygeeks.com/yswimages/samsung-micro-usb-data-cable-… These are just a few things but it's pretty clear that Samsung has no problem just copying outright. I don't think they're going to win this trial and I don't think Apple is going to own all black…
