You clearly have no idea what are you talking about. Here's what NRK has published about Facebook: https://nrkbeta.no/?s=F facebook Feel free to search for articles about other social media.

I'm actually also scouting for a reddit and HN alternative. It seems like Reddit users are just spilling over to HN and that shows in the quality of many "discussions". I think NRKbeta's method of requiring a quiz before one can comment [0] should be tested on bigger platforms. NRKbeta seems to have a good experience with it. Furthermore, it'd be nice to be able to subscribe to moderators or groups thereof. I think Aether[1] uses that method of moderation. If that wasn't completely tongue-in-cheek, check out Lars Monsen[0] on NRK.no if possible from your country. He's the real deal. Now to look up Survivorman... -- [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lars_Monsen EDIT: DRM-free version of the great '365 Nordkalotten' available via Bittorrent here: https://nrkbeta.no/2008/01/29/norwegian-broadcasting-nrk-makes-popular… Or the location-aware Norwegian TV site NRK might be good for you here: http://tv.nrk.no/sok?q=lars+monsen

"Norwegian internet users were tracked by Disqus because the company did not know that Norway introduced the common European privacy regulation GDPR in 2018. It thus took 511 days before Norwegians were incorporated into the company's "privacy mode" for GDPR countries and previously collected information was deleted."[0] It seems that there was some setting that is enabled by default in all other countries than countries with the GDPR law. Also, from an earlier article: "The company also claims that they have not shared Norwegians' online visits with anyone other than the parent company Zeta Global. Zeta Global describes itself as a 'data-driven marketing company"' that has information on over two billion identities."[1] As a Norwegian, it will be interesting following this case. A bit context on NRKbeta from their website. "NRKbeta is NRKs sandbox for technology and media. We write about media, the internet and new technology with a focus on you as the user, and what we at NRK do in this field. We call it a sandbox because we want to test things out, be curious and find out how things change. And bring you, the users, with us on this journey." https://nrkbeta.no/ EDIT: I also think it's important to contextualize this journalism with the current debate around the Norwegian contact tracing application. The application has been heavily criticized for the collection of GPS data for research usage and track behaviour when new guidelines are announced. They claim this data is going to be "anonymized", but alter clarified it would only be "pseudonomized". It is also unclear if the data collected is going to be deleted in December, when the app is set for deletion by the current regulation from Stortinget.

Someone once collected how people visualize the year and wrote about it here: https://nrkbeta.no/2018/01/01/this-is-what-the-year-actually-looks-lik… Quite interesting how people are so different.

The Norwegian national broadcaster, NRK, that created the Bergensbanen minute for minute video also hosts two torrents for that video btw. Yes, that’s right officially hosted torrent files from a national broadcaster :D https://nrkbeta.no/bittorrent/ Their first torrent is for a 720p version, 50 fps, h.264 encoded mp4. https://nrkbeta.no/torrent/Bergensbanen-minutt.for.minutt.1280x720p50.… Their second torrent is 1080i and uses ProRes 422 codec. It comes to a whopping 246 GB total! :O https://nrkbeta.no/torrent/Bergensbanen.1080i50.ProRes422.Nrk.mov.torr…

If months are circular for you, in which direction do they progress? A few years ago I realized my mental model of calendar months goes counter-clockwise. No idea why. I'm also aphantasic, so it's a sense of space and movement but I'm not actually seeing a circle. NYE is at 12 o'clock, but January is oddly at 11. edit: here's the article that prompted me to reflect on this https://nrkbeta.no/2018/01/01/this-is-what-the-year-actually-looks-lik…

Could it be this Norwegian one from NRK? https://nrkbeta.no/2020/12/03/my-phone-was-spying-on-me-so-i-tracked-d… The original in Norwegian https://www.nrk.no/norge/xl/avslort-av-mobilen-1.14911685 has some nice visualizations.

A sidenote: NRK has made many of these series available as torrents [1]; for example, you can find various resolutions or the same train route filmed at each season. It attracted some attention at the time: https://torrentfreak.com/norwegian-tv-launches-bittorrent-tracker-0903… [1] https://nrkbeta.no/bittorrent/

NRKbeta, the tech vertical of the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK, actually did the manual version of this a few years back [0-1], but found it hard to conclude with success or failure based on the evidence they gathered. The technical blog of the public broadcaster of Norway has implemented exactly this: https://nrkbeta.no/2017/08/10/with-a-quiz-to-comment-readers-test-thei… The quiz module is open-source (https://nrkbeta.no/2017/03/06/our-comment-quiz-module-is-now-open-sour… and available on github https://github.com/nrkbeta/nrkbetaquiz

NRK, the national broadcaster in Norway, let you watch geo-licensed content anywhere in Europe if you are logged in and authenticated with BankId [1][2]. Which is very handy, as before I had to go via VPN which was ok but more of a faff. * [1] https://nrkbeta.no/2019/12/19/na-kan-du-ta-med-nrk-tv-pa-ferie-i-europ… * [2] https://www.bankid.no/en/company/

It's derived from Google and Apple's tracking of phone location. They know exactly where your home is, where you work, and with a map can see when you go to a park or a shop. This is app tracking, but Google and Apple have more direct access : https://nrkbeta.no/2020/12/03/my-phone-was-spying-on-me-so-i-tracked-d…

They should just do it like NRKbeta did in Norway[1], quiz them about one detail from article that isn't reflected in the title. [1] https://nrkbeta.no/2017/08/10/with-a-quiz-to-comment-readers-test-thei…

If you are a poor kid, you upload your interpretation of a Bach piece and get slammed by an injust, extralegal pseudo-copyright mechanism, that’s in essence an attack on human culture.. MIT and Khan Academy could easily host their content using BitTorrent and reduce their bandwidth usage by 95% ( https://nrkbeta.no/2008/03/02/thoughts-on-bittorrent-distribution-for-… )

Yes, it will. Here's a good news-article [0] giving context to the report. Quote: > Director of Digital Services in the Consumer Council, Finn Myrstad, says they will now ask the Norwegian Data Inspectorate [i.e. Datatilsynet] to assess whether Google and Facebook violate the new Privacy Policy (GDPR) that has entered into force in the EU. Furthermore: > The operation is coordinated with 23 European sister organizations in 16 countries. Of these, the Consumer Council states that 12 organizations will deliver letters to their respective data surveillance. At least six American consumer organizations are also behind the report. A 4% tax on global revenue? Laughable for Facebook. And that's the maximum hit. The GDPR is applied by each member state, and Facebook operates in them all. I see no reason in the GDPR why each member state can't apply its own fine. How does 28% sound? https://nrkbeta.no/2018/04/05/facebook-reported-to-data-protection-aut…

Yes, they've launched a beta tool that forces people to take a quiz before they're allowed to comment to ensure they actually read the article: https://nrkbeta.no/2017/08/10/with-a-quiz-to-comment-readers-test-thei…

Not GoPro, but Norwegian broadcaster NRK have filmed several train journeys as part of their "slow tv" offering. Original HD video files (200++ GB) are available [0], and there are multiple versions on Youtube, like a 10 hour trip with Nordlandsbanen from Trondheim to Bodø [1] and a 7 hour trip from Bergen to Oslo [2], including a 10 minute stretch from Finse where the scenes from Hoth in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back were filmed [3]. The NRK article is the more interesting read with lots of in-depth technical info http://nrkbeta.no/2014/08/13/nrk-breaks-new-ground-to-show-chess-on-te… Looks like they generated the real-time TV graphics with HTML5, and then reused that same HTML5 for their webpage. The Arduinos were used to automatically control video switchers in sync.

Can't speak for parent, but for me: on a train (lots of tunnels - no really, lots of tunnels[1]), on an airplane and in an airport (no free wifi) -- quite recently. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bergen_Line#Line Side-note, the Norwegian broadcasting service, NRK did a pretty crazy stunt filming the whole thing, and airing it on tv: http://nrkbeta.no/2009/12/18/bergensbanen-eng/
