Mythic Beasts[1] do Pi hosting for a reasonable amount - not used them personally, but I have been recommended to them by a few people [1] https://www.mythic-beasts.com

Also using Hetzner. But I came across Mythic Beasts (https://www.mythic-beasts.com/) yesterday, similar idea, UK based. Not used them yet but made the account for the next VPS.

At the moment I'm using Mythic Beasts in Cambridge - they're not cheap but their support is fantastic - https://www.mythic-beasts.com/. I have a few friends using https://www.ukservers.com/ and https://www.veloxserv.co.uk/ who are more reasonably priced. I've also used m247 in the past, but had terrible experiences with them since they were acquired by private equity - network & support quality went really downhill. For servers, I use https://serverfactory.com/ and https://www.rackservers.com/. As is typical for this kind of thing ignore the online pricing and email in - you'll usually do rather better, but they'll want you to pay by bank transfer. edit: being outside of London means power is a lot cheaper, but I get about an extra 2ms of latency to my server. I consider that a reasonable tradeoff :)

If i need a UK host i always jump to Mystic-beasts. They are great, i use them even for Colo. https://www.mythic-beasts.com/servers/virtual

There are some that do Raspberry Pi hosting, like https://www.mythic-beasts.com, but it's the older Pi3s for now and they're not as cheap as e.g. Scaleway. It seems they've at least looked into Pi4s: https://www.mythic-beasts.com/blog/2019/06/22/raspberry-pi-on-raspberr… Maybe there are other companies that host other SBCs.

https://www.mythic-beasts.com/ - having looked, it turns out they don't have a telephone number, but as all my support emails have been answered within minutes I'd never felt the need :)

Mythic Beasts (a great UK hosting/colo service) just announced an IPv6-only virtual server - £5/month instead of £7/month for IPv4: https://www.mythic-beasts.com/order/vps6

This advice by an indirect indicator, but the Raspberry Pi folks seem to be using http://www.mythic-beasts.com/

Mythic Beasts rents rpi servers: https://www.mythic-beasts.com/order/rpi/ - there is a niche for it

Over here in the UK companies like mythic-beasts would provide what you are asking about. https://www.mythic-beasts.com/hosting You would add your CMS of choice (Wordpress running on the shared server or rsync up a local set of static files) I'm assuming companies like this must be ten a penny in USA.

> if your users don't have IPv6 (and many don't), you're basically screwed Not quite, all you need is to make sure the proxy/CDN is dual stack, like what this IPv6-only hosting service did: https://www.mythic-beasts.com/order/rpi/ Cloudflare, for example, does this for free: https://community.cloudflare.com/t/proxy-ipv4-visitors-to-ipv6-only-ba…

Same reason nobody hosts their production website on a Celeron box in the corner of the office: Production hosting is about more than just requests per second. The Pi server thing is a proof of concept that ignores everything else that goes into production hosting. You can do it, it’s just going to be miserable like any self hosting, slower than any x86 hardware, and require the equivalent of thousands or tens of thousands of dollars of engineering time just to accomplish what you could get with a few clicks and 15 minutes with AWS. There’s a reason their hosted Rasperry Pi service is more expensive than getting an EC2 micro instance: https://www.mythic-beasts.com/order/rpi

Technically you could get a Raspberry Pi at https://www.mythic-beasts.com/order/rpi for £7.25 per month but I'm not sure if this is what you had in mind. It's not exactly a server and it's not going to win any prizes for performance.

I host a static website on a Raspberry Pi 3 and it's been running very well for about 3 years. It's static HTML and it also serves files. It's hosted by a provider with a "Pi Cloud". https://www.mythic-beasts.com/order/rpi The website is https://www.piwheels.org - it's a Python package repository for Raspberry Pi users It's served over 20M downloads, which is 70TB. Currently serving 1.2M downloads a month (4.4TB). A cheap VPS would be easier, better and about the same price. But piwheels is a bit of a dogfooding project. But it works!
ben_w · 2020-05-28
It’s absolutely good enough. My web host will let you rent them as dedicated servers, and has used them as hosts themselves: https://www.mythic-beasts.com/blog/2019/06/22/raspberry-pi-on-raspberr…
xja · 2017-01-11
Looks really cool and must have been a fun project. I guess it's not hugely practical, partically as each Pi has a display attached. Mythic beasts in the UK are doing Pi based co-location. I think this could be interesting. Not perhaps in terms of performance, but the isolation between users in nice. See here: https://www.mythic-beasts.com/order/rpi
