The fees on HL are quite high though, it's worth shopping around the brokers. http://monevator.com/ is a great resource for this stuff.

As always, Buffett said it best, "By periodically investing in an index fund, the know-nothing investor can actually out-perform most investment professionals."

In the same category, if you live in the UK then http://monevator.com is the go to source for passive investing advice. The comments section is a gold mine as well.

One thing I recently discovered that gave me some pause for thought is what happens if you buy a vanguard ETF and either the provider or vanguard itself somehow gets into trouble. For example, what happens if the ETF provider is actually loaning out the underlying stocks and gets caught by market movements. Apparently in the UK at least there are quite a few scenarios in which the FSCS 85k guarantee would not apply (in contrast to a cash savings account). See e.g. discussion here: https://monevator.com/physical-etf-risks/

Theres a poll from last week(?) I saw.
Conservative members put Brexit above the union (with Scotland and Northern Ireland), above the survival of their party, and above the economy. The only thing they put above Brexit is keeping out Corbyn.
Edit, here it is:

There's a good list of UK brokers here, most of which have Vanguard funds. http://monevator.com/compare-uk-cheapest-online-brokers/ Personally, I use Charles Stanley Direct and I don't have any complaints about them.
Make sure to stick it in an ISA account if possible to keep it tax free.

It's not guaranteed, but on average in the UK it's 2.9% above inflation since the 60s: http://monevator.com/historical-uk-house-prices/
