I'm building an app to do this, will let you know when it's in beta. :) Meanwhile, some of the similar apps that store data locally I've come across are: - https://copilot.money/ (nice UI; partly local—think it might use CloudKit for syncing) - https://ufincs.com/ - https://actualbudget.org/
I feel like http://monarchmoney.com is still the best UI I've come across, but I can't believe how common it is for all these providers to store your transactions in their cloud... seems like a fundamental security flaw to me, no matter how much they claim to lock down access to customer support agents/etc.

I used to use YNAB which was very helpful in learning and getting comfortable with budgets.
I now use monarch money[0] which has a much broader focus and offers better investment tracking, forecasting etc. They have a cash flow view which is particularly insightful.
A lot of the finance related subreddits are helpful (like personalfinance, bogleheads etc) for advice, planning, ideas etc. Also a fan of The Money Guy on YouTube[1].

I use Monarch. I pay a monthly fee for it, but it has zero ads, tracks all the accounts I care about, and gives me a simple interface for the "envelope method" on web and mobile. I've used Mint, YNAB, and several other tools. This is my favorite that I've found so far.

I use https://www.monarchmoney.com/ and I review my transactions weekly. I like that it lets you roll budgets over month to month. I don't like that changing a forecast item changes all the following months.

I’ve been using Monarch lately and I love it.

Monarch Money | Various Engineering Roles (Security, Product, Infra, Design Eng) | REMOTE (US, LatAm, EMEA) | Full-time | https://www.monarchmoney.com/careers
We've built the best-in-class personal finance tool. We saw a 10X growth in revenue over the past 12 months, hit cash-flow profitability, and expect another 3-5X growth next year. We're looking for help on the Product Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and Design Engineering side.
Stack is Typescript (React/React Native) and Python (Django). Apply directly and mention HackerNews in the "How did you hear about this role?" question.

I personally enjoy Monarch. Nice looking UI, full financial picture like Personal Capital but they use multiple data aggregators to sync your data and most institutions you sync they allow you to choose which aggregator you want to use.

I pay for a budget app. https://www.monarchmoney.com/ But somehow I got in on their beta, and felt like they did a good job and wanted to continue to support them. But they've been around for quite a few years now, so I think they are pretty successful..

This might be just what you're looking for: https://www.monarchmoney.com/
Although I'm not sure how it compares to YNAB since I've heard good things about it too. What I like about Monarch is the nice UI, no ads, responsiveness and that the sync doesn't fail (often) like it failed (often) with Mint all the time.

I can’t recommend Monarch strongly enough. It is a service that aggregates across bank accounts, brokerage, credit cards, etc.
The killer feature for me is that it provides overall money in/money out, with some good visualizations too. This is nontrivial for anyone using multiple credit cards or bank accounts, and is *critical* information for being a responsible adult IMO.
It also has budgeting, investment tracking tools, etc. But these stay out of your way if you just want to look at overall metrics like in/out over time, or net worth.
I showed my financial advisor and he was so impressed he picked up their advisor product (https://www.monarchmoney.com/for-professionals). So I don’t have to pay for a subscription anymore myself!
I strongly believe everyone should use a tool like Monarch for financial situational awareness.
$15 discount via my referral link (but I don’t get anything because my account is paid for via my financial advisor): https://www.monarchmoney.com/referral/b3q5nmkw2r

I've been using Monarch for the last 6 months when I heard Mint was shutting down. It's been a dream to use and I feel good paying directly for software that I believe they will continue investing in. It even supported more bank/credit connections than Mint was able to.
I referred my sister last week and I got a discount. So I am going to throw this out there in case anyone wants to try it:

Sounds like you would benefit from Monarch. I use their Sankey features for visualizing expenses (https://www.monarchmoney.com/features/spending)
