I love Streak for singleplayer but prefer Missive or Front for collaboration. It would be awesome if someone can turn Gmail into a collaboration hub like https://missiveapp.com/ or Front with this SDK.

I'd really recommend https://missiveapp.com as an alternative (not affiliated, just a happy customer). Lots of team features, but even for individuals it has things like thread merging, snooze, tracker blocking, alias support, email templates, etc etc. Huge boost for work email vs gmail. Also, it's available only as a UI on top of your existing mail server, so super easy to migrate on/off and plays nicely with other tools & clients.

> […] all the GUI concessions that only webapps have to have. I don't know if users would ever accept this from a native desktop application […] I bet you would be impressed by the GUI we have built for Missive - https://missiveapp.com/ It’s 100% web, yet it feels just as snappy as the best native clients. We also have a native macOS app that wraps the webview and provides a Dock icon, system notifications and Quick Look (space bar to view attachments).

I think it's because most apps are influenced way too much by "standards" that people expect but actually sucks. I have 2 examples of web apps working really fucking well: Missive (https://missiveapp.com/) is an email client web app with features that should be standard in every other email client. I run it via Firefox and it's the best damn email client I've ever used. It uses JS extensively but they use it very well. Migadu (https://migadu.com/) is the absolute golden standard of email inbox services. It's not fancy but oh my days, does it work and it's so damn easy to use. Every time I have to set up emails I get happy because these guys spent exactly 0 seconds on trying to appeal to people who equates parallax-scrolling with competence. Migadu does not use JS as far as I can tell. As a counterpoint to both, Office 365/Outlook is a gigantic, floppy donkey dick of a web app that makes all sorts of assumptions, has 3 different interfaces and is generally just a pain in the ass to use. Somthing as simple as logging in/out is a muddled, technical mess that makes it a god damned chore to change accounts.

We use Missive[0] and it's pretty good. It's definitely not as low price as Jelly though. [0] https://missiveapp.com/

> There’s literally nothing like that today, 15+ years later. For those seeking a comparative app for todays platforms, here are some that were mentioned on HN. https://missiveapp.com/ https://www.beeperhq.com/?hn

"Collaborative email on top of G Suite. The main thing we pay for is a comment box below each email thread. It allows us to quickly discuss emails without forwarding or copy/pasting in Slack. It also allows us to edit drafts collaboratively and have multiple team inboxes for invoices, support, and other stuff." Thanks for the mention Francesco. I'm Philippe, one of the co-founders of Missive [1], don't hesitate if you have any questions. p.s. We are a tiny team (4) too and use many SaaS ourselves. [1] https://missiveapp.com/

This app is nothing unique or new, here's another in the same space: https://missiveapp.com

That made me chuckle. I cringe at exaggerated, buzz-wordy, vague sales-copy as much as the other person, but isn't it shown to work (by Apple et al)? I'd be interested if you or anyone else have examples of to-the-point landing pages / sales-copy with zero exaggeration and gimmicks. I liked the WhatsApp's back in the day [0], but they had a lot going for them and didn't need any extraordinary claims. MissiveApp [1] is another one that feels comfortable, to me. Next step is software allowing one user to assign tasks (emails) to another and which keeps one thread per customer. https://frontapp.com/, https://missiveapp.com/, https://www.intercom.com/inbox and such.

Tried it, didn't care for it. May work for some. (Personally, I'm loving Missive - https://missiveapp.com/ - which seems targeted at a similar niche and has some very slick execution.)

simplelogin for sms is definitely a space lacking in the consumer product market. family home management and communication routing in general is a blank space with almost nothing. it extends into every market. childrens medical bills only appearing in one of two parents accounts etc. communication from an entity to a family is ripe for disruption and standardization. have you looked at business support tools such as https://missiveapp.com/blog/what-is-sms-shared-inbox

BTW - the Change Log page for Missive is really neat. Features and bugfixes going all the way back to May 2016! https://missiveapp.com/changelog

first time I hear of both Front and Missive. After browsing Front I felt like I was drowning in marketing, whereas missive just felt so clear and upfront in comparison. Also really liked their pixel blocking and refusal to use any![0] not very common in the industry. We’re currently on Helpscout and quite happy. But have to admit I felt very tempted to switch to missive after visiting their page. And I didn’t even look for an alternative nor have any major issues with helpscout to begin with. Anyone with firsthand experience of any of those tools that can compare? [0] https://missiveapp.com/features/auto-block-read-trackers
