SEEKING WORK - NYC or Remote http://madhatted.com [email protected] Fullstack web developer with a background in startups, eager to work with the smart people on your team to build something great. I've been working with Rails since 2006, but I'm comfortable with everything from Linux command-lines to writing tested Javascript libraries. If you're doing something with Ember.js or an ambitious client-side app, let's talk!

I don’t work there, but was an early customer and have built apps from 1.x days. The things that have improved: 1. Performance, performance, performance. It’s not fair, but anything that existed before react really was slow, because all JS dom updating was basically .innerHtml. Once we (as a JS community left that), everything has gotten faster (especially ember). Seehttps://madhatted.com/2016/11/30/5-things-to-know-about-ember-2-10-and… 2. Composability of components: being able to compose components together dynamically based and have a well defined boundary for colmunicating with the outside world is great. There is still some papercuts with the actual component API, but those are getting smoothed out. 3. Build-tooling/ecosystem. The amount and quality of tools keeps going up to accomplish tree shaking, AST parsing, etc. I just updated an ember app from 2.3 -> 3.0 and it took less than 2 hours to upgrade, test, deploy.

This looks not too different than modern versions of the block-based blog editors in Wordpress or Ghost where you can alternate Markdown blocks with rich elements. Ghost persists the data using the Mobiledoc format, which is JSON, not rendered HTML. This allows flexibility for display. https://madhatted.com/2015/7/31/announcing-content-kit-and-mobiledoc

I really enjoyed the EmberConf talk about movie studios using it for movie promo sites because they needed to be able to get them up quickly. I think if you took that concept and maybe a blog post about doing an Ember PWA (https://madhatted.com/2017/6/16/building-a-progressive-web-app-with-em… for example) then maybe the large part doesn't matter so much...

First of all, this looks truly awesome! I've spent a lot of time recently looking at the available open source editors, and with the exception of specifically 'code editors' there isn't much out there that supports markdown. I have been reading about the recently announced content-kit: http://madhatted.com/2015/7/31/announcing-content-kit-and-mobiledoc and am wondering if you have considered the 'card' style concept for ProseMirror? I see ProseMirror has an interface for adding images, and says that it will support different document models in future and I'm wondering how extensible that will be. What sort of APIs are going to be available, will it be possible to create custom 'blocks' or 'cards' of data - e.g. defining a block for adding a table / spreadsheet - similar to what you see in things like Quip or readme.io?

It's difficult to say exactly since SEO isn't really an exact science. Some of them will definitely be an improvement. For example, it's not really valuable for someone to land on one of your tag pages. Putting all your links to your content pages inside H2 tags tells search engines that they're more important that other links on the page. The /title one is big. Google likes short URLs without a lot of extra cruft. You're using rails from what I can see, so the change is trivial. :) Add a route, throw an index on your slug field, and have requests to the old URLs do a 301 redirect to the short version. Page load time is also a SEO factor now. http://yakkstr.com/tags/7-Politics takes 4.25s to load according to your X-Runtime header. That's really bad. You're not paginating, and you're only loading a few entries, so I think you're missing an index. :) Here's some tips: http://madhatted.com/2009/8/12/faster-sites-done-faster Check this out: http://www.google.com/search?q=site:yakkstr.com Lots of empty/valueless results. Maybe you can noindex blogs that have no posts in them so they don't pollute the search results? Your slug generator is generating bad slugs: http://yakkstr.com/posts/1793-Climate-Change--- You should look at using String#to_url from https://github.com/rubypanther/stringex instead of whatever you're using currently. Google text ads may convert better than the image-based ads since they're usually more relevant to the topic at hand. Try experimenting with…
