My parents like to tell the story of when I got my first Lego set--the first thing I did was pull out the instruction booklet (with all the diagrams of 'models you can make') and put it in the trash, with the explanation "I don't need instructions." Most of what I wound up building with them was 'world of the Future' models, which demonstrated some vision of an ideal society. For example, I had a model street with some storefronts, and overhead wiring to support small single-person electric scooters which would run on the sidewalk alongside the pedestrians, and would be docked at special stations for the next person who needed them. (I struggled with designing an automated system to automatically redistribute them as necessary, using only relay logic which is what I understood at the time.) Another model was what I now recognize as a 'smart home', which featured occupancy detection, a (wired) telephone remarkably similar to Apple's 1983 concept phone[1] based on the Macs we had in our house at the time and an Apple Newton I had seen, and various other concepts (again, all based on relay logic and desktop computers!) Bear in mind that I was doing all of this when I was 10. Clearly this was not normal play amongst my peers, and I would not expect Lego to provoke this sort of thing in most people. However, it was for me a valuable tool in building a worldview which I still strive for today. My point in mentioning all this is that the great virtue of Lego is that it can be…

It sounds to me like you’re saying that Apple management recognized that an integrated ecosystem (phone, tablet, watch, desktop OS etc…) could offer significant value to its costumers (in Apple’s case, the customer is the end user) while providing sufficient margin to serve as a profitable business model. Google, an advertising company, was focused on giving away free stuff (Gmail, Android, etc…) as an means to build profiles of its users that it could sell to its customers (in this case, advertisers). A bit off topic, but I personally find Google, and by extension, the Android ecosystem, to be an underhanded business model. I don’t feel bad it’s ending poorly for them. It’s especially rich Google ripped off Apple in order to get Android launched [1]. [1] https://www.mactrast.com/2013/12/inside-story-android-ripped-original-…

The kid's phone was set up against the parent's account and the stored payment methods were applied. Or the kid was borrowing the parent's phone. Kids apps pull/pulled all sorts of tricks to prevent people from understanding the modal purchase confirmation dialog (eg https://www.mactrast.com/2019/04/apple-adds-an-extra-confirmation-prom… )

Apple butchered the standard SATA connector so you can't use third party SSDs from OCZ, Mushkin, Transcend, AData, Kingston etc. Only one vendor, OWC (MacSales), ships a compatible SSD, but of course you can't use it in non-Apple laptops which have a standard SATA connector. A quick google search reveals: http://www.telegraphindia.com/external/display.jsp?mode=details&id… http://www.mactrast.com/2012/01/more-than-1-in-10-ipad-owners-in-the-e… Both referencing the same IDG report. http://tabtimes.com/news/ittech-stats-research/2012/02/17/one-four-eur… Apparently Doctors are replacing laptops with iPads. http://brainerddispatch.com/news/2012-02-09/cass-county-boards-ipads-w… County board replaced aging laptops. Apple itself keeps saying that Fortune 500 companies are buying large quantities of iPads. They can't all be for consumption.
