At Lumafield we are looking for an Embedded Engineer in Boston.

And learn more about Lumafield below:
Lumafield was founded in 2019 to upgrade manufacturing.
We are engineers with deep experience across the product development cycle, from initial ideas to shipping hardware, across industries and specializations, who became frustrated by the cost and complexity of modern manufacturing. So we decided to upgrade it.
Engineers make million-dollar decisions every day, and they need tools that give them the greatest possible insight into their products. By offering unprecedented visibility into products, as well as AI-driven tools that highlight problems and generate quantitative data, Lumafield promises to revolutionize the way complex products are created, manufactured, and used across industries. We started with industrial CT scanning, which for us was the most valuable but underutilized tool in the manufacturing toolbox, enabling us to rapidly inspect essential components non-destructively.
We rebuilt the whole system, from X-ray capture, to computer vision analysis, to web-based collaboration, to the entire business model, making the most advanced manufacturing tech more accessible to every industry. Our company, like our platform, is designed for upgrades. We’re building for greater intelligence, autonomy, and speed. For deeper vision, operational excellence, and…

From YT comments:
… this kid appears to know what he’s doing. He even built a fairly outrageous DC power supply specifically for this project. … It was smart to use the remote control to keep away from the X-rays! … hence, why he was across the yard … Protip man, build a little lead or steel vault for that thing to protect yourself AND remove background radiation that is noising up your image. Then get yourself a survey meter and make sure you are keeping exposure outside the vault to 5mr/Hr or less. … Excellent work young man. When I read the title of your video, I thought perhaps you misunderstood the complex nature of the reconstruction algorithm. Turns out I was the one trying to keep up with your explanations and logic. … I fix CT scanners for a living. This is pretty darn cool!! When you started out, I was trying to figure out how you were going to make all of that rotate around your “patient.” You simply rotated your “patient” itself. Well done! … While not medical grade, it still demonstrates the working principle and actually extremely useful for imaging internal structures of all sorts of things! If you believe Lumafield, 8% of low-quality lithium ion batteries have a mechanical defect that can sometimes lead to a short circuit.
Is this person really brave, or just unaware of the risks?

I don't know how much electronics are in a DAC cable, I haven't taken one apart and I can't find any CT scans of one online.

Nah, this is just an apologetic just look at the amount of engineering they put in their Thunderbolt 4 cables:
https://www.lumafield.com/article/usb-c-cable-charger-head-to-head-com…
Its crazy stuff. You are telling me they cant think of a secure way to use a mechanical, screwed system that is able to cope with the thermal expansion. I find that hard to believe. I believe it is mostly cost and profit incentive, MAYBE safety, but I also doubt that last one.
rtkwe · 2023-11-06
That's not true for PD charging cables though right? They are generally USB2 speeds if they have data pins beyond what's required for PD charging at all but they're just direct electrical cables without any chips as far as I know.

Ha! I'm with Lumafield--we've actually done the same thing, scanning bags of Doritos, Cheetos, and Ruffles: https://www.lumafield.com/article/bite-into-doritos-ruffles-and-cheeto…
To answer the question about whether these are cleaned up, these scans aren't processed beyond what our software does automatically during the reconstruction. Industrial CT scanners are designed to scan a wider range of material densities than medical scanners. We use some copper filtration to scan parts with lots of dense materials, but no extra processing is required once we've reconstructed the model.

- A previous comment by me about my list of absolutely gorgeous, interactive, animated, high dynamic learning resources classified as S TIER
- S-TIER blogs are those that are animated, visual, interactive and absolutely blow your mind off
- A-TIER are highly informative and you ll learn something
- opinion blogs at the absolute bottom of the tier list because everyone everywhere ll always have an opinion about everything and my life is too short to be reading all that
- these are the S-TIER ones on my system
