https://lowercasecapital.com/ is my favorite VC fund name

This sounds remarkably like the sort of sky-is-falling rhetoric I heard on this website when Brendan Eich was pushed out of Mozilla. He's now the CEO of a of a two-year-old startup with $7M in funding. I'd love to have my reputation ruined in the way Brendan Eich's was!
It is technically true that it remains to be seen whether anybody will do business with him, but I strongly suspect they will. For the purpose of accurately testing this hypothesis, note that he already retired from both Lowercase Capital and Shark Tank a couple months ago: https://lowercasecapital.com/2017/04/26/hanging-up-my-spurs/
There are a couple of projects listed there (Zach Braff's new ABC show, his new podcast, some different form of investing): we can see if those come to fruition.

I disagree. It is wholly insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Twitter can't be fixed by putting so much thought into an icon - the core engagement of it is slightly broken. Chris Sacca had a great article on what is wrong with Twitter [1]. TLDR: changing stars to hearts won't move then needle.
The fact that they devoted an entire blog post to it makes me feel like they're headed in the wrong direction.

Part of Twitter's challenge is that it's mainstream, but in a "write-only" way. Every celebrity, politician, religious leader, and journalist may be tweeting 24-7, but their followers aren't engaging in the same way they do on Facebook. A lot of users don't login, tweet, or spend much time on the site/app according to various reports.
Chris Sacca said a lot about this recently. http://lowercasecapital.com/2015/06/03/what-twitter-can-be-2/

That's part of it. Another is a lack of good curation features, as Chris Sacca has written about (http://lowercasecapital.com/2015/06/03/what-twitter-can-be-2/)
I also thought about this when I started building Testimote. A lot of interesting things are being said (positive things about companies in my case), and are drowning out there in the great torrent coming from the firehose. I think there's room for both Twitter and outside companies to continue to build out curation ideas around this, as the data set is quite rich (and Twitter - at least recently - has been fairly generous with their basic APIs with things like rate limits [though I think lower cost plans would be fantastic for higher rate limits, rather than big money for the full hose].)
A combination of better curation and rebuilt developer relations could really help - maybe not user growth, per se, but certainly with service usage. What about web sites and mobile apps giving people a way to give feedback to the company (something as simple as a Tweet box that says "give instant public feedback") that simply tweets out the message using their account? People would start using Twitter without doing anything more than filling in a form and supplying an email address (for first-time users.) There's a lot of untapped potential around this. I think it also helps to think of Twitter as a giant, sometimes overlapping set of IRC channels and DMs, but with the ability to tap into it all. Like with IRC bots that would…

I just made this connection when I was looking at their portfolio [https://lowercasecapital.com/posse/], and saw Gimlet Media. Lot of interesting stuff on that page.
angersock · 2017-04-26
I'm unconvinced that somebody who made their money in many cases exploiting the little guy ( https://lowercasecapital.com/posse/ ) is suddenly finding religion here in any meaningful way.
Action at the large levels is remote and indistinct, and boils down to status signalling and rich people games.
Paying for housing and food and shelter and schooling and grants and libraries and hospitals goes a hell of a lot farther...just see the good works of Carnegie and Kaiser, to name two.

No, I believe they were referring to Sacca's investments: https://lowercasecapital.com/posse/
downandout · 2016-07-05
I think he was referring specifically to himself. However, he isn't that wrong. There are a few that want warm intros, and one that actually won't even talk to you without one [1]. But if you view your fund raising strictly in terms of dollars raised per hour spent, you'll find that simply contacting more people is the vastly more productive route in most cases.

The writing was on the wall the moment Chris Sacca penned that long letter http://lowercasecapital.com/2015/06/03/what-twitter-can-be-2/ - if not before.
Twitter really needs a strong product person running it.

Glassdoor: 88% CEO approval rating from 220 ratings.
It's interesting that there is such a disconnect between employees and stakeholders.
On a related note Chris Sacca wrote this blog [0] titled "What twitter can be" last week.

Chris has said he's going to be more vocal and clarified his stake in Twitter[1].

another top tier VC once told me that out of the thousands of business pitches he receives in his office every year, his firm has never funded one that came in completely cold.
Referring to Chris Sacca (http://lowercasecapital.com/prospecting/) perhaps?

> I have looked into Mastadon several times, and I still don't understand what problem it is trying to solve.
Many aspects of Twitter-the-service are wonderful, but in many people's opinion the service's creator has shown (and continues to show) poor judgement and an apparent inability and/or desire to moderate bad actors. For example, Chris Sacca has been a prominent critic[1], and there's a long history of Twitter's somewhat-abusive history with developers[2].

> Part of the appeal of Twitter is that it __is__ centralized. I can find and discover arbitrary tweets or threads by popular people all in one place.
Decentralized services don't preclude that — see Google and websites, Apple and podcasts, etc. An open ecosystem means that one company doesn't have to solve every problem, and that multiple companies can compete to solve the same problem.

We mix tweets from professional journalists, bloggers and fans from both teams, then create a human curated twitter stream in real time. We usually have live analysis, photos, vines, instant fan reactions and a few jokes here and there.
A few months ago I read the "What Twitter Can Be" article from Chris Sacca (http://lowercasecapital.com/2015/06/03/what-twitter-can-be-2/), and the “live” section of it resonated a lot with me. I thought “Damn, how I wish something like that existed”, then I realized I could just make it as a side project.
We keep our schedules at the website, so you can see which are our upcoming events and check how our previous coverages turned out. If you want to get a feel for what we are doing here, you can check the stream for the season kickoff at http://maritaca.tv/livefeed.html?id=pit@ne&utm_source=hackernews&a… We will cover the Brows vs Jets (http://maritaca.tv/livefeed.html?id=cle@nyj&utm_source=hackernews&… game at 1pm ET, and the SNF tonight, Giants vs Cowboys (http://maritaca.tv/livefeed.html?id=nyg@dal&utm_source=hackernews&…

I wrote a post in response to Costolo stepping down. Since the trendy thing is to post punditry about Twitter, I couldn't help but chime in.
