I use http://keen.io/ for this (actually almost all of my analytics needs are done with Keen). Amazing product.

Keen IO | San Antonio, TX | Solutions Architect | Full-time | ONSITE | https://keen.io We acquired Keen last December and have been carefully growing the team and getting the product in shape since then. We started with ramping up engineering over the spring/summer and we just finished staffing up our CS org. We've got enough organic demand that a Solutions Architect is our next critical hire (our chief platform engineer and I have been splitting that work but its definitely a full time job at this point). At Keen the Solutions Architect role is a bit different. Its a highly technical role and you work both pre-sales and on post sale implementation. Our analytics platform provides general purpose building blocks to solve a wide variety of challenges, we rely heavily on discovery and a deep level of analytics expertise to help our customers assemble exactly the solution they need. What we’re looking for: - Experience in either a Sales or Customer facing engineering role. - Solid understanding of SQL or NoSQL concepts and implementations. - Technical background working with modern web technologies, stacks, and API’s. You should have some familiarity with one or more of the following: Javascript, Ruby, Node, or Python, etc. Ultimately, what we’re looking for is someone with familiarity implementing business or product performance analytics ( activation, engagement, retention, adoption), and that can help other companies use our platform to implement similar metrics and…

Systems Programmer / Infrastructure Engineer at Keen IO - https://keen.io (San Francisco only, for now) Analytics Backend as a Service for modern developers (web + mobile + internet of things) Our API's usage is doubling every 6-8 weeks. We need help supporting that load. Keen IO is a fully managed cloud API that lets developers build complex, hyper-custom, large-scale analytics and data science features directly into their web, mobile, or Internet of Things applications. Our currency is event data, and events are a pretty broad abstraction. Every time someone draws a breath, clicks a link, loads a website, pauses a song, or starts a car, there's an event. Events like these, in large aggregate, are extremely useful -- and therefore valuable :) It's probably worth mentioning that we're a platform company, not a product company. This means our customers are using the platform to build for an emergent and rapidly growing set of use cases. The same flexibility that makes us future-proof for a given customer also makes us future-proof from a market perspective. So while a product company seeks a certain kind of product-market fit, we allow product-market fit to come to us: our customers build it for themselves. Things we look for in a new team member: • Learning agility • Abstract reasoning • Empathy • Potential is more important than credential • Confidence, but tempered by humility & the drive to get even better Some things we believe in: • Mission =…

The pricing page could use an example. I immediately had to use a calculator to get a sense of the pricing, missing a zero on the calculator is easy. Maybe "if you do 10.000 writes per day, so 300.000 a month, it's $45". Or a slider tool like https://sendgrid.com/pricing/ I think a minimum price could make sense. Chasing payments, e.g. expired credit cards, on accounts making $2/month won't be profitable. Ages ago https://keen.io/ started like this. You can still see the 'stream', 'store', 'query', 'present' steps in their offer.

We used Mixpanel [0] in our frontend some time ago. But there was no real business strategy behind it. That's why it got abandoned eventually. Now we experiment with Keen.io [1] to track events for different/new features in our tool. We started to track events from our backend, but for user behaviour we would use it to track events from the frontend as well. [0] - https://mixpanel.com/ [1] - https://keen.io/

We've put one together very quickly using the data visualization widgets from Keen (https://keen.io). Another option is the awesome Static Board app made by Panic (http://panic.com/statusboard/). Note that you'll need an iPad to project it.

I'm not aware of a solution that does all this, but for analytics , I have tried Keen.IO [0] which was nice. [0] : https://keen.io/

I've found MQTT really useful in M2M/IoT situations, but I often found that I wanted to make use of existing HTTP based web solutions in combination with my MQTT networks. As the first thing on my wishlist, I recently made a little python library [1] to aid people in pushing selected MQTT events to KeenIO[2]. It's mainly for development and testing, but I've found it pretty useful in my applications. [1]: https://github.com/ZoetropeLabs/keenmqtt [2]: https://keen.io

You're welcome: Keen's been great to work with. Mostly just organization: as far as I can tell you've recently started maintaining some of the docs at the Github repo, but much of the original writeups were on https://keen.io/docs/clients/javascript/reference/. It makes it a little confusing jumping around and linking back and forth when you trying to figure out how to do a new thing. For my money (not much of it, but its what I have) Stripe's API doc reference (https://stripe.com/docs/api) which wraps both the concepts and the code samples into a nice little ball are still the gold standard.

We emphasize "event data" which goes beyond blanket monitoring. This is "big data" because what you're tracking could still happen at high volume and velocity. We leave the third V, variety, up to you - ultimately you will know your business best and can create and extend the data model you need. Making a backend code change to add a single event collection could immediately lead to millions of very rich data points! My colleague wrote an excellent blog post on about the event data approach and I think you might enjoy the read! https://keen.io/blog/53958349217/analytics-for-hackers-how-to-think-ab…

Loved this. Thanks for sharing. I'm also fascinated by retention analysis matrices. If you're interested in how to programmatically generate one using funnel queries on event data, here's a guide for how to do it! https://keen.io/blog/47823687779/how-to-do-a-retention-analysis/

Love the post... and stripe webhooks! Integrated them with Keen IO in about 60 seconds and even made a (perhaps overly enthusiastic) blog post about it. https://keen.io/blog/48628875285/integrate-stripe-and-keen-io-in-60-se…

Nice. Seems like a very good start for that framework. It reminds me of https://keen.io/ and looks like you have a lot of the stuff there. Keep the good work!

http://keen.io/ is another analytics service not mentioned on this list.

The analytics platform discussed in the article is http://keen.io They've since been working hard to nail their product down with more specificity. :)

We've been doing something similar using keen.io. Our goals were to get high volume web data (pageviews, clicks, etc.) alongside application data already saved in our Firebase DB and synced to BigQuery. We picked Keen because it has an open source web tracking lib https://github.com/keen/keen-tracking.js/ that easily plugs into our React/Redux stack. They also have built-in streaming to BigQuery: https://keen.io/docs/integrations/google-bigquery/ Keen pricing is about 10% of mixpanel, so for our limited needs it has been working well. Long term if our volumes really grew the original post looks like a good option, but figured we'd pass along this lower dev approach.

Once you learn about Snowplow's canonical event model (https://github.com/snowplow/snowplow/wiki/Canonical-event-model) or read Keen's data modeling guide (https://keen.io/docs/event-data-modeling/event-data-intro/) you quickly realize all the stuff that you haven't been recording :)

If you have coding experience it should be very easy. Most charts will simply need data in JSON format passed to them. Personally I use Keen.io for storing and querying analytics data. You can get a live URL of an query that can be directly connected to your code. They also have a dashboard template to get you started. https://keen.io/docs/data-visualization/

From their TOS: https://keen.io/tos You grant us a... fully paid license to use the Content... for purposes of providing the Services... to other users of the Services They want a license to give my data away to other customers?

I think the real power of Keen is the ability to gather analytics for your clients. If you're a platform (think Shopify), your customers probably want some sort of dashboard and reporting on their customers. Keen makes this too easy with their embeddable JS visualizations: https://keen.io/docs/data-visualization/ and scoped keys for security: https://keen.io/docs/security/#scoped-key Also checkout this comparison of Mixpanel & Keen: https://keen.io/blog/67519816958/mixpanel-vs-keen-io-whats-the-differe…

It kinda depends on where that company is in its funding lifecycle. Startups usually have a recruiting stage right after the series A round is complete, so there's a bunch of articles and blog posts about that situation. Here's a short reading list: http://michaelochurch.wordpress.com/2012/07/08/dont-waste-your-time-in… http://blog.keen.io/post/29904565692/how-i-negotiated-my-startup-compe… http://jacquesmattheij.com/first-employee-or-cofounder/ There are a few equity calculators out there on google, both for partners and early employees. They might give you some direction, although I wouldn't solely rely on them. Good luck!

Saw this from a few HN threads down. May be helpful? http://blog.keen.io/post/32269955563/pricing-is-hard-we-need-your-help Personally I like the "Utility Pricing" (per article) for something like Jetstrap but maybe on a per project basis instead of per screen?

Thanks for reading my post :) I wrote about my decision to make the jump in a previous blog post: http://blog.keen.io/post/26096112831/why-i-left-consulting-and-joined-… Some things to consider: 1. Consulting work is still there if I need to return to a higher salary. 2. My salary in the startup will be adjusted if the startup does well. 70k will not work out long term in SF, but it's ok for a year or so.
