http://grumomedia.com/how-create-a-great-product-demo-video-using-keyn… Yes blank screen and talking is fine enough. Check out the above link. Its best to tell a story, something along the lines of the problems in your target customers life without your product, then how much better it gets once he has your product. Keep it short <2 min and just cover main benefit/feature. If it need to look more flashy for an investor or something use an adobe after effects template from http://videohive.net/ and you can prob find someone on fiverr or similar site to edit it for you. Remember it just has to be interesting to your target customer, so don't make it about your product make it about them!

Thanks for mentioning my interview Frank! If you are in a tight budget going the Keynote route can be very effective as well. I think Frank did an excellent job given the time constraints. I also interviewed him about how he made the video at http://grumomedia.com/grumo-inspired-demo-video-by-crowdsquared/

Grumo Media did that video as a gift to Hipmunk. They do videos for startups. You can check out their site here: http://grumomedia.com/

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but they've made some great promo videos for some YC companies. http://grumomedia.com/get-a-video/

Why does the Hacker "Chris Russo" sound more credible than the guy from Plenty of Fish? -http://grumomedia.com/plenty-of-fish-hacked-chris-russos-explains-how-… 1. He provides emails - I think Mark(Guy from Plenty of Fish), really needs to get those voice recordings of Chris threatening his wife online to be more credible. 2. Mark tells a complicated story - A story with mafia and all that, really? If we follow Occam razor, Chris story sounds more realistic. He saw a flaw and reported it. Everything was going dandy until he saw ads for Plenty of Fish data. At this point Mark decides to try ruin Chris by fabricating a story, since he believe it is him trying to sell the data. It is a simpler story. 3. Why isn't Mark contacting the authorities? - A week and Chris is not in jail and responding freely on his blog? Mark does have some valid points though,he did hack pirate bay: http://torrentfreak.com/the-pirate-bay-hacked-users-exposed-100708/ But Chris claimed again, proof of concept and he has no bad intentions.[What is the appropriate way to expose vulnerabilities?] In my opinion, he[Mark] should release the voice recording to add more credibility because right now he is sounding shaky.

Plenty of Fish also store(d?) passwords in plaintext[1]. I wouldn’t particularly trust their technical decisions. http://grumomedia.com/why-plenty-of-fish-stores-passwords-in-plain-tex…

His video (http://grumomedia.com/new-grumo-what-is-hipmunk/) truly brought upon a smile in it's quest to convey simplicty. The spanish accent is very comforting in a way, like the time you visit a mexican resort and the person in the hotel's tour guide booth tells you very clearly and in very simple english what you can expect. None of this 'empower yourself' and 'be all you can be' by using our product bs, just tell me what the thing does. If your product is any good at solving my problem I won't need further convincing.
