Yeah, but maybe Kimi doesn't pretend to know better than I do. Like, I just had a task today where I had a silly form where I wanted to copy in a signature from one document to another document. And, you know, I could have just used some other dumb tools, but I decided, hey, let me us ask Codex to do it. But it started lecturing me on how we can't do this kind of stuff. And it was just pure silliness. So hopefully Kimi Work doesn't try to pretend that it knows better and lets me decide on ethics.
This blog post here summed it up the best. These are tools, so let them be tools.

> The point is this: you will be very dissatisfied with your career if you expect a promotion every 2 years. Very simple math would say you’re setting yourself up for decades of disappointment.

If it's a question about entrenched corporate dysfunction, I can't answer it. Most people's answers are wild guesses at best.
If it's a question of first principles, there is a small glimmer of hope in a company called tinygrad making the attempt - https://geohot.github.io//blog/jekyll/update/2025/03/08/AMD-YOLO.html
If the current 1:16 AMD:NVIDIA stock value difference is entirely due to the CUDA moat, you might make some money if the tide turns. But who can say…

When they originally announced tiny corp and the tinybox, the entire pitch was that AMD hardware were great, but their software was bad. [1] Now they're giving up on AMD hardware because the software is bad. Wasn't the whole point to solve that problem?
I'm hopeful for tinygrad as a piece of software, but I'm skeptical about the future of the tinybox if they keep waffling on the hardware so much.

Economic limits are imaginary, secondhand effects of the ideological goggles one's society decides to wear at a certain time for arbitrary reasons. USA during the Manhattan Project knew of no economic limits, i.e. they could arbitrarily push them according to the greater goal; China today, for instance, knows no economic limits. But yes, today, in the "Western" world a speech such as "we choose to get 160 zetaflops (10^21) [1] under your desk in 10 years because it is hard" [2] would be unimaginable, also because you can count on the fingers of an amputated arm how many politicians know what a FLOP is.

Probably also tiny corp for self hosting:

I think there's a tremendous concern about letting data exfiltrate to any AI SaaS offering among business execs. If you could offer an experience minus the cloud that's easy to use and has compliance/logging features, I think you'd find success from industries that are reticent sharing customer data(e.g. Banking, government) who benefit greatly from the NLP workflows that LLMs enable

The same self-driving company he left? His "Amazing Journey" post[1] for Comma was illuminating; once a company is "[...] no longer a race car, [but] a boat" GeoHot is likely to bounce. I like AMD as much as the next guy, but I don't want to rely the software being provided by a personality who really gets excited by working on new projects before the "wild success" stage (if we can call it that for Comma)

I clicked through to the previous blog post, to read more about the unit of a "person" of compute [0]. Definitely worth a read, if only for this quote:
> One Humanity is 20,000 Tampas.
I'll never think of humanity the same way!

Funny to see Google names in there.
Anyhoo, did the likes of change.org ever lead to something fruitful?
The companies will cave in, like they always do. You don’t fuck with power.
You can personally stop participating [1, 2] though.

3rd party observation: funny how it’s completely ok to surveil the entire world for Anthropic/OpenAI (like they do with their reports on Chinese exactly how, when, and where with all the chat transcripts, zero privacy whatsoever) but boy oh boy shit hits the fan when the same treatment could (will) be applied home.
—
3rd party observation #2: it is hilarious how US is so much like Russia but with a great deal of delay.
Cancel culture is basically early Soviet Union in the beginning of 20th century. Stuff like Anthropic is what was going on with Yandex and what have you.

AMD's products have generally failed to catch traction because their implementations are halfassed and buggy and incomplete (despite promising more features, these are often paper features or resume-driven development from now-departed developers). all of the same "developer B" stuff from openGL really applies to openCL as well.
http://richg42.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-truth-on-opengl-driver-quality…
that's the reason blender kicked their openCL implemention to the curb after years of futzing with it. it wasn't portable because AMD's openCL was so broken they had to have their own special codepath anyway, and it didn't perform well and wasn't worth the effort.
AMD has left a trail of abandoned code and disappointed developers in their wake. These two repos are the same thing for AMD's ecosystem and NVIDIA's ecosystem, how do you think the support story compares?
https://github.com/HSA-Libraries/Bolt
https://github.com/NVIDIA/thrust
in the last few years they have (once again) dumped everything and started over, ROCm supported essentially no consumer cards and rotated support rapidly even in the CDNA world. It offers no binary compatibility support story, it has to be compiled for specific chips within a generation, not even just "RDNA3" but "Navi 31 specifically". Etc etc. And nobody with consumer cards could access it until like, six months ago, and that still is only on windows, consumer cards are not even supported on linux (!).
That's fine for…

I’m put off by AI agents adhering to a different morality than me, particularly (ironically) copyright, and their data accessible by the AI company and government. Geohot is right, an LLM should be aligned to its user: https://geohot.github.io/blog/jekyll/update/2026/07/11/ai-2040.html

Ok, I have heard of this: https://geohot.github.io/blog/jekyll/update/2026/04/15/zappa-mitmproxy…
But after looking at it, it keeps the text, but strips out the attention-grabbing javascript or webassembly graphical animations. It also uses A.I., which can get very expensive to use. My idea is to use a simple "clickbait text generator" and then check the reaction time of bots and social media algorithms to show content with synonyms and/or antonyms to the clickbait text generator's words, a simple dictionary synonym and antonym comparison check, no need for computationally heavy A.I. and subscription plans.
Also, it could do sentence analysis and not filter out based on say, verbs, but it could filter out based on nouns, etc.

My interest in anything associated with geohot took a colossal nose dive today after seeing this post against democracy, quoting frelling M*ncius M*ldbug: Democracy is a Liability. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47469543 https://geohot.github.io//blog/jekyll/update/2026/03/21/democracy-liab…
Theres a lot there that makes sense & I think needs to be considered. But a lot just seems to be out of the blue, included without connection, in my view. Feels like maybe are in-grouo messages, that I don't understand. How this is headered as against democracy is unclear to me, and revolting. I both think we must grapple with the world as it is, and this post is in that area, strongly, but to let fear be the dominant ruling emotion is one of the main definitions of conservativism, and it's use here to scare us sounds bad.

The problem with geohot is that if there was Musk anounced a medical procedure where men could pay to get pregnant by him, geohot would empty his life savings and be first line line.
Seriously, read his blog, and ctrl-f Elon on any post.

a) On such a topic I would trust someone who has worked there even more than someone who only experienced how these companies work from the outside.
b) I'd argue that decentralization of power and knowledge has always been a main driver for George Hotz¹²³ and possibly a reason why he is no longer at Facebook, Google, Twitter.
