Seems like a reasonable effort and we probably need more of this kind of stuff. But still I think the industry should focus more on educating developers to prevent them from introducing mostly unnecessary accidental complexity to today's typical apps rather than inventing new layers to manage it.

There are parallels. Sometimes.

> I don't understand the allergy that so many developers have (in my experience) to subscription software.
Not owning it, keeping data somewhere else, stacking many small subscriptions into a big monthly bill.
> Software is never finished
But some apps are not in active development forever. You don't need to add big features endlessly to something like a FTP client:

Linkbait much? Further down below, Torvalds explains precisely why BE is anything but dead. All that's dead is general-purpose CPUs using it, mostly because x86 happened.

(Edit: which is precisely why I prefer BE for anything, unless there is a pressing - usually hardware- and performance-related - requirement for the opposite. Computers are good at reading bytes in swapped order. I suck at it.)

Crockford's refusal to extend JSON is genius IMO. Totally agree with you: if the task you're trying to accomplish sounds like a fit for XML, then please use XML. JSON is what it is, and not everything needs to be gradually extended into six mutually incompatible versions of increasing bloat.
