This looks good. Will give a try.
I know this is also more analytics/product focused. But one feature that I absolutely loved from another company in this space (https://www.fullstory.com/) is the ability to see the log of network requests and console logs. It was fantastic for debugging. Just thought I'd mention in case its a useful data point.
jchook · 2018-04-04
I agree. Very polished.
We use FullStory and it’s fantastic. Would be extremely difficult to convert me.

FullStory | Staff Software Engineer, Backend | REMOTE (USA) or Atlanta | https://www.fullstory.com/
FullStory offers session replay and analytics for web and mobile apps. (Digital Experience Intelligence/DXI.) We put a strong emphasis on preserving end-user privacy and having minimal impact on the site/app, while still providing insightful analytics and near-magical replays.
We're looking for someone to join our Mobile Enablement team, primarily focused on the backend side. FullStory's backend is written in Go (golang), and running on Google's cloud: GCP, BigTable, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, GCS, etc. You may also find yourself touching Java, Objective-C, Rust, or TypeScript for our mobile frameworks and web interface.
FullStory has a great remote working experience, a strong engineering culture, and a healthy work/life balance (40 hours a week is normal, as is taking vacation).
Benefits include healthcare, 401k matching, equity, self-directed PTO (I tend to take about 5-6 weeks of vacation a year), a learning stipend, generous parental leave, a sabbatical after 5 years, and more.
I'm an engineer on the Mobile Enablement team, feel free to ask me anything either as a reply here or in an email to nathan@[company site].
I don't know what the official pay range/TC is, but I can say that I make $205k base (+equity) with about 18 YoE. (FullStory doesn't do bonuses as far as I'm aware, although they are proactive about raises.)

Honestly, this type of discussion is seriously irritating, because it implies that TikTok is doing something unique that other apps aren't doing. Just as the article demonstrates, many western countries do the exact same thing that TikTok does, except TikTok seemingly takes it one step further (probably because of shoddy programming). Applying geographic-based arguments to technology is just a bandaid. The problem needs to be solved in all situations, not just in situations where people aren't politically happy.
Any company injecting keyloggers or monitoring systems into web content should be subject to the same equally damning judgement. Just because it's China doesn't make keylogging bad. Keylogging is bad because keylogging is bad. Companies like Fullstory [0] and Hotjar [1] are used all over the western internet and effectively act as full session recorders. Sure, used well they can be used for analytics, but you could just as easily inject Fullstory or Hotjar into an in-app browser and suddenly record all data a user does. Should this be possible? No. Does it help to just ban China? I mean sure, but why should you be okay with a western company doing it?
TikTok is a short video app used mostly by younger generations. It produces highly accurate recommendations for videos to watch. We're not talking about something like a banking app, a healthcare app, or even a messaging app. It's a video-based social network. There are bigger fish to fry than TikTok in almost every…

> as long as it’s not tracking people
I'm sure some sites don't do this, but plenty do.
Check out FullStory. It's a drop-in Javascript snippet (aka accessible to any marketing/design folks) that records the DOM and rebuilds it as a playable video in their backend as if you were doing a screenshare and recording it.

> It would be really inefficient to store this as a full HD video for thousands of users.
https://www.fullstory.com
Most heat mapping services do not store such qualitative data because of the cost (e.g. hot jar). They opt instead to simply reproduce the "almost full story" by faking a video from the data. Services like fullstory are different.

One javascript import statement and you are recording your users entire session activity
There are whole startups offering this service to other startups
arnioxux · 2018-10-27
One thing people don't realize is that a lot of web analytics software already do "session recording". So it can playback every wiggle of your mouse, every scroll, every keystroke, etc.
You can see some creepy demos here:

Data protection laws? Provide some examples.
Google does this on all of their products. And people that have left Google have made their own versions of this software for others to use. For example: https://www.fullstory.com/
rpedela · 2017-01-15
A bit off-topic, but how did you create those videos? It seems like a useful tool to test/optimize design, find UI bugs, etc.
EDIT: They used FullStory (https://fullstory.com). I missed that when I read it the first time.
kieranr · 2016-12-14
Creepy. It's pretty common to see companies use https://fullstory.com/, http://www.inspectlet.com/ or other session-capturing tools now - and they wouldn't say anything in the privacy policy.

Seems like a few of these user recorders are popping up. Another alternative is FullStory https://fullstory.com/

FullStory | Staff Software Engineer | Full-Time | Remote (US timezones)
My name is prashanth, I'm the manager of the Mobile Enablement team here at FullStory. My team is currently hiring for a Staff Software Engineer, primarily focused on backend skills, but who is comfortable jumping in to Android Studio, XCode, and TypeScript if necessary.
What we're looking for
* Focused on Backend - Our backend is written in Go, using gRPC, GCP, Grafana, BigQuery for logs, BigTable / datastore for storage, GCS for more storage.
* Comfortable jumping into other stacks - We do touch Java, Objective-C, Swift, TypeScript and Rust in some of the work we do
* Staff level impact - can build abstractions, and evolve them over time.
* Understands Mobile Apps and Websites - knows what an Android View is, UIKit View. Also knows how Web apps work and can understand the similarities and differences between apps and websites.
I started as an engineer on our SDK focused team working on deep internals of Android for a couple of years, but as our Mobile product started to get more customers, it became clear that the way we process Mobile sessions and find interesting insights wasn't evolving. Our team is focused on helping teams build features for our Mobile product without having to understand the nitty gritty details of our SDK and mobile specific data structures.
If you're not familiar with FS, here's my take on the elevator pitch:
FullStory builds the best product analytics + session replay…

Many people get startup ideas came by working at a company and noticing a gap in tooling, a super manual process or an error prone one or something that is hard to use effectively. Taking a job can be a path to your dream, be it by finding ideas or by funding your future build time, or by growing your list of connections etc.
You can come back to the same idea later or come up with better ones. Some dreams take a while to accomplish, you have to try hard and not give up. The steps to get there are not the same for everyone. Some start early others learn a lot from their corporate experience.
And yes, if you want to be a founder and don't think your own ideas are commercialisable, either partner with someone who has them (and find the ones you both like) or get really good at understanding what the job of each product around us is - practice the methods in https://www.fullstory.com/blog/clayton-christensen-jobs-to-be-done-fra… on a daily basis and soon you will see lots of gaps in the market. Some of them might be narrow but very valuable, few will be wide enough to make a small business of, and very very few will yield multi-million dollar companies. Why do you have your own software company? Is it because you love independence or you think you'll enjoy being a founder or just a technical founder? No bad answers here it's just important to understand what drives this dream of yours. Then it gets easier to find the right path to your ultimate goal.

TS discriminated unions are functionally nearly identical to variants in OCaml and enums in Rust. I don't know about Rust, but the difference between TS and OCaml is mainly just the syntax and ergonomics. OCaml has great syntax for pattern matching and exhaustiveness checking, for example. You can still get this functionality in TS with if/else or switch statements and potentially some type system tricks: https://www.fullstory.com/blog/discriminated-unions-and-exhaustiveness…
To illustrate how TS discriminated unions are functionally equivalent, check out this playground link showing how ReScript (an alternate syntax of OCaml which can compile to JavaScript) compiles an OCaml variant to a JavaScript object with a "TAG" key that could easily be typed as a discriminated union in TypeScript:

FullStory| Senior iOS Engineer | Atlanta and Remote (U.S.) | Full-Time | https://fullstory.com
FullStory provides a privacy-obsessed plugin for capturing and indexing mobile app session replay and usage analytics at white knuckle scale. We are looking to grow our mobile engineering team with a senior iOS engineer to help expand and improve our mobile product offering. Rest assured, this role is not "building an iOS app" - you will be diving deep into the depths of iOS to create a plugin used across hundreds of apps running across millions of users.
If tracing through detailed system logs and occassionally firing up a dissassembler with high calibre ex-google and mozilla engineers sounds like a "jolly ol' fun Tuesday", this is the role for you. If you tinker with open source for giggles and routinely make jokes about the number "42", this is the role for you. If you want to work with a group of highly skilled, yet "just good people", engineers...and quickly grow to a leadership role, this is the role for you.
Come join us! The team is primarily remote, so...yes, very remote friendly. Apply here: https://boards.greenhouse.io/fullstory/jobs/4918319002

FullStory | Software Engineering & SRE | Onsite and Remote (US/CA) | Atlanta, GA
FullStory’s mission is to improve user experiences on the web and mobile devices. We’re accomplishing this mission daily by providing a platform that allows developers and product teams to automatically collect ultra high definition analytics from their sites and applications, then make those analytics available through a powerful search engine, pixel-perfect session playback, and machine learning insights.
Capturing and processing data at this level of completeness is no mean task, and the scale that FullStory runs at means that there are lots of interesting problems and opportunities for high-leverage contribution.
In particular, my team is hiring for folks who love to streamline software development, automate away daily toil, and make systems more resilient:
* Site reliability engineering: https://grnh.se/bf7e122f2
We're also growing our security team:
* Application security engineer: https://boards.greenhouse.io/fullstory/jobs/4500838002
* Security operations engineer: https://boards.greenhouse.io/fullstory/jobs/4232568002
FullStory is a remote-friendly, hyper-growth SaaS company based out of Atlanta. The work environment we've cultivated is aligned around our three watchwords: clarity, empathy, and bionics. We value high-quality/low-ego collaboration and use automation to eliminate toil in daily work. If that sounds good to you, join us!

FullStory | iOS SDK+Web/DOM framework engineers | Atlanta or Remote
FullStory’s remarkable analytics system was born in the browser, but we’ve now extended it to support native mobile applications while adhering to the same core principles as the web: magical ‘drop-in’ developer experience with no configuration, very low performance overhead, pixel-perfect session rendering, high fidelity instrumentation of user and system events, and low network bandwidth (we care about bytes), all while keeping security and privacy paramount.
We're looking for experts in iOS mobile [1] and web [2] development. If you love working at the SDK level, enjoy really understanding how mobile and web APIs work at very low levels, you'll love working with our team.
We're remote friendly and Atlanta based.
If this specific description sounds interesting to you, email me directly at [email protected]. If you'd like to see the other engineering jobs we have (security, SRE, front-end and back-end roles), check out https://www.fullstory.com/jobs/engineering/.

I'm getting the same. I checked after leaving my previous comments in this thread.
For example, began entering a manual contact and the name for that contact was sent to FullStory (that's as far as I looked.)
The privacy statement for FullStory appears much different than that of Dex.
https://www.fullstory.com/legal/privacy/
https://getdex.com/privacypolicy
That's enough for me. I understand I'm already sending my data, but there's no mention that my sensitive data is going to another service. And I would expect that my data is sent over a secure line and securely stored. And that it won't be "replayed" or otherwise viewed.
EDIT: How do I delete my account? Consider that a feature request.

FullStory | Data Scientist | Remote and Onsite | Atlanta, GA
FullStory’s mission is to improve the web for all users. We’re doing that by building an ambitiously high-scale platform that records, analyzes, and humanizes more customer experience data than any other technology on the web.

FullStory’s Data Scientists are not just critical thinkers in the realm of data research and analysis, but also proficient developers who can turn important insights into tangible outputs.
