What HN saysHN treats it as the canonical write-up of the Sassaman-as-Satoshi theory, noting how his tweet timing matches Satoshi's posts.

In 2008, there were only a relative few people who could've created Bitcoin. Len Sassaman, dead since 2011, is the best fit imo.
"By all accounts, Len was on track to be one of the most important cryptographers of his time. But on July 3rd, 2011, he tragically took his own life at 31, following a long battle with depression and functional neurological disorders.
His death coincided with the disappearance of the world’s most famous cypherpunk: Satoshi Nakamoto. Only 2 months before Len died, Satoshi sent their final communication:
I’ve moved on to other things and probably won’t be around in the future." [0]

This article shows how his Tweet times match well with Satoshi's posts: https://evanhatch.medium.com/len-sassaman-and-satoshi-e483c85c2b10

The documentary may be new but the claim is not. The tweet embedded in the submission itself says:
> there was a good write-up of this theory by @evan_worlds in 2021
The detailed writeup from 2021 is easily accessible[1]; Len’s Wikipedia page mentions that theory too[2].

I'm pretty certain Satoshi's identity is known, although not publicly stated and/or confirmed by anyone. I believe a handful of the early developers had very strong suspicion as to who was behind the name, but never pursued a confirmation of it.
My money is on Len [1]. The sheer number of coincidences, crossing of rare skill sets and interests, time, place, penchant of pseudo anonymously publishing things and happened to take his own life <2 months after Satoshi's final gloom-filled message, "I’ve moved on to other things and probably won’t be around in the future".

This blog post about Len Sassaman being Satoshi is very compelling. https://evanhatch.medium.com/len-sassaman-and-satoshi-e483c85c2b10
However, there are some valid counter arguments in this thread, such as Satoshi coming out of retirement in March 2014 to state that he was not Dorian Nakamoto, in the wake of a Newsweek article that falsely fingered the latter as Satoshi.

I recently came across this: https://evanhatch.medium.com/len-sassaman-and-satoshi-e483c85c2b10
which lays out a pretty compelling case for Len Sassaman being Satoshi. Len worked alongside Hal on PGP
