This book[1] was a great read on the topic. [1]: https://ethanmarcotte.com/books/you-deserve-a-tech-union/

Ethan Marcotte's website is a thing of beauty. Check out this article [https://ethanmarcotte.com/wrote/not-the-device/]. Most of it's well-done¹, but I fell in love with the topographical background. ¹ that table ain't

Reminder (which the article mentions only once in the context of worker productivity and pay growth): https://ethanmarcotte.com/books/you-deserve-a-tech-union/

Somewhat related, this book is pretty good: https://ethanmarcotte.com/books/you-deserve-a-tech-union/ It answers a lot of the questions I see being asked in this thread.

Also probably consider blocking them with .htaccess or your server's equivalent, such as here: https://ethanmarcotte.com/wrote/blockin-bots/ All this effort is futile because AI bots will simply send false user agents, but it's something.

> Ahhh, container queries... here at last. For other folks wondering why this is seemingly very important: https://ethanmarcotte.com/wrote/on-container-queries/

Is this any different to Ethan Marcotte’s technique written from back in April? https://ethanmarcotte.com/wrote/css-grid-without-max-width/ Used that one myself here: https://rwd.education

It's not about "creative freedom". It's about Google forcing its will on the internet. - You want to be at the top of our search, in the search carousel? You must implement AMP. We don't care how fast or beautiful your website is. Oh, and only news sites may apply. - You want to show people the canonical URL? To show the source of the website? No. We will show that it comes from Google, we will actively try to discourage people from finding links to your website, and we will actually launch an initiative in Chrome to kill the URL altogether - You want to measure activity and engagement on AMP pages? Oh, no we're going to send you a different, very limited and reduced set of analytics data - You want to show ads in your AMP pages? Oh, it will only be from the ad providers that we, the largest ad provider, allow. - Do you want to engage in how AMP is defined and designed, and change how it works? No, you can't, we go through a totally opaque process, and we only deliver final decisions that you have no say on. Oh, yes, once we've made all the big decisions (including things like AMP for Email) that actively harm the web, we will create a token "governing organisation" that will do everything in the open, fingers crossed. Not that it matters at all. And so on and so forth. This is a good article with links to other articles highlighting the many issues with AMP: https://ethanmarcotte.com/wrote/amplified/

For people who use extensions or browsers that block third party JS, AMP pages will take many seconds to load in non-mobile Web browsers. Here is information about some of the other problems with AMP: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/05/19/open_source_insider_google_am… https://danielmiessler.com/blog/google-amp-not-good-thing/ https://ethanmarcotte.com/wrote/ampersand/ https://css-tricks.com/need-catch-amp-debate/ https://daringfireball.net/linked/2017/01/17/schreiber-amp
