Official Groupon response: https://engineering.groupon.com/2014/misc/gnome-foundation-and-groupon… "There is some recent confusion around Groupon’s intended use of a product name that the Gnome Foundation believes infringes on their trademarks. We love open source at Groupon. We have open sourced a number of projects on github. Our relationship with the open source community is more important to us than a product name. We’ve been communicating with the Gnome Foundation for months to try to come to a mutually satisfactory resolution, including alternative branding options, and we’re happy to continue those conversations. And if we can’t come up with a resolution, we’ll be glad to look for another name. We will continue to have an open line of communication with the Gnome Foundation until this matter is resolved."

So far, I have found the following as the only mention on the inter-webs. https://engineering.groupon.com/2013/misc/i-tier-dismantling-the-monol…

And Docker is massively used at Groupon, so your argument isn't valid. https://engineering.groupon.com/2014/misc/dotci-and-docker/ http://www.meetup.com/Docker-Chicago/events/220936626/ Source: I work at 600 W Chicago, the Groupon World HQ, where they frequently host Docker meetups on the 6th floor.

The move comes across as particularly hypocritical after reading this recent Groupon Engineering blog post titled Sharing is Caring: Open Source at Groupon: https://engineering.groupon.com/2014/open-source/sharing-is-caring-ope…

I know that there's some cross-over in the Python/Scientific community with http://software-carpentry.org/ - which is interesting. I also know that in Chicago 'apprenticeship' is a word that is thrown out there a lot. http://www.8thlight.com/apprenticeship https://engineering.groupon.com/2012/software-apprenticeship/groupons-… https://www.devmynd.com/jobs/apprenticeship

Here is a relevant groupon blog post: https://engineering.groupon.com/2012/javascript/looking-forward-to-an-… How about multiple backend support? Perhaps then someone could add a dart or NaCl backend.
