Our initial thesis is that we can make considerable impact by tackling unconscious bias through education, commitment, and enablement. While we are just getting started (and would love your thoughts on our strategy), we plan to tackling unconscious bias with the help of corporate and nonprofit partners, and a dedicated Hire Blind Initiative team. Our partners and team will: 1. Educate executives and hiring managers on structured interviewing and blind hiring/bias eliminating practices (We believe that https://Workplace2030.org or https://www.engine.is/ are great precedents for this aspect of our work) 2. Encourage organizations to publicly commit to implementing bias eliminating hiring practices and processes (We believe The Board Challenge (https://theboardchallenge.org/) and Time to Vote (https://www.maketimetovote.org/) are great precedents for this aspect of our work) 3. Build tools that make blind hiring easier and more effective for organizations of all sizes (One example would be an easy to use free/low cost resume redaction tool)

Is https://www.engine.is/ an industry lobbying group? That's what it looks like.

0) That wasn't Ars' analysis, that was their reporting. [0] was the one that did the analysis. 1) The analysis/grading was based on policy positions. 2) You're just wasting your keypresses if you honestly can't tell the difference between reporting someone else's work and their own analysis. 3) The actual report card for those interested [1]. I'm keeping track of people who are actually doing politics in Silicon Valley, as well as running a group of my own (http://www.meetup.com/Politihacks-of-Silicon-Valley/). Outside of politihacks, these guys seem interesting: http://engine.is/

Elsewhere in this thread I and other people talked about how Engine probably made this with the goal of making people more sympathetic to tech companies' challenges with content moderation, by giving people some form of first-hand experience. It turns out that we don't have to speculate about this motivation, because they spelled it out quite explicitly in a blog post: https://www.engine.is/news/category/moderator-mayhem

A nice summary of the subtle mechanics of section 230 by Eric Goldman. Complemented by this overview of what it costs to resolve spurious takedown requests: https://www.engine.is/news/primer/section230costs

Here is the "fact sheet" that Ajit Pai distributed at the event at the Newseum today: https://twitter.com/davidshepardson/status/857288519227756554 Also of note, YC, TechStars and Engine Advocacy released their "Startups for Net Neutrality" letter to Pai this morning: http://www.engine.is/startups-for-net-neutrality
