https://disroot.org/ provides Git hosting (and email, cloud storage, and more). Their annual revenue is about $35k. There's no money in this.

https://disroot.org/ is already doing this, though not all its services are end to end encrypted. They are explicit about what is e2ee though.

There are various similar communities, which don't have to compete with one another because the internet is a big place. Two that jump to mind are https://tildeverse.org and https://disroot.org.

I believe Disroot is out of the EU and offers free (donation based) email services: https://disroot.org

Like Framasoft? Not that I know of. There are local versions in Europe. A lot smaller is https://disroot.org from the Netherlands.
There are floss projects that are growing:
- Nextcloud (German)
- Mastodon (German)
- Element/Matrix (UK and French)
- Pixelfed (Canada)
- Small Tech (Ireland)

In what way? Not in mature stable clients or in system resources for hosting a server. There’s issues around the centralization of Matrix.org and I've seen many cases where folks spun up then spun down a Matrix server 'cause it costs too much to run. In the case of Disroot, the closed their server to open an XMPP server instead.

There is: https://aria-net.org/SitePages/Portal/Bridges.aspx
Matrix.org also has an XMPP implementation (see https://disroot.org/en/services/xmpp), but it was quite unreliable when I tried it.

I didn't try personally, but i heard from some hosting cooperatives they dropped synapse (and matrix entirely) because it was too resource hungry. for example disroot https://disroot.org/en/blog/matrix-closure

That seems to be confirmed by admins running bigger servers such as disroot [0].

The first three are just copied and pasted from this article:

I've used (am using) Zoho for a domain of mine. It doesn't see a lot of use - but it's worked whenever I've needed it.
