I think we may be talking about 2 different things; I believe you are referring to this, correct? https://discourse.haskell.org/ I was talking about a Discord (https://discord.com/) server. I should probably check out the Discourse more. Discord servers for communities like this become very hard to follow, and I feel like a good chunk of the questions people post in the Discord could be easily answered by an LLM.
geofft · 2021-06-14
Not sure I follow. The following certainly does not work: 1. Install Chromium from https://www.chromium.org/ 2. Go to https://discord.com/ and click "Open Discord in your browser" 3. Discord can read files from ~/.ssh You mention "Electron," but Electron is a local application. So it doesn't satisfy my request, which is that I want you to steal my SSH private key when I visit a website in a web browser.

Secure communication is unfortunately still difficult for non-tech people. Most of the "easy" ones are tied to a smartphone, like Signal. However if the goal is to prevent accidental leaking by using reply-all or adding an email address by mistake, then I think encryption features are nice-to-haves rather than a must-have. It's a very nice to have, but for non-techies and for your specific use case, usability is probably more important at this point. I would thus recommend either: * Discord (https://discord.com/), easy group voice chat should you need one * Slack (https://slack.com/) using a free account, but they limit the number of messages for free accounts. May not be a deal-breaker for you. * Element (https://element.io/) which was formerly Riot.im, and is encrypted and have more security features vs. the other two. Probably the most secure here. All of them have their pluses and minuses, but all of them can be opened in a browser and require no smartphone. I suggest you pick one that you feel is easiest for your group to register and use, and provides the feature set that you require. With regard to Discord, please make sure to read [0] before making any decisions :) [0] https://cybernews.com/privacy/discord-privacy-tips-that-you-should-use…

We'd love to know which libraries your production code falls over on! Feel free to ping us on discord (https://discord.com/invite/KNpgGbTc38) or you can find my e-mail in my profile if that's preferable

Great article, Isaac! If anyone is JJ-curious, I also can't recommend the Discord[1] enough. The community is very helpful and welcoming. [1]: https://discord.com/invite/dkmfj3aGQN

I can't believe how common this is now, if you dont have screenshots AND a video you are shooting yourself in the foot. If anyone is curious of what I expect (in page order top to bottom) Screenshot of complete product ui with description (showing complete UI) Button to the download/buy product. Header/tagline description of feature below: Screenshot of individual parts of the UI (These are more often then not videos these days/gifs). Description of these screenshots Buttons to expand to another page to learn more. Bluntly, Just copy what other companies are doing. They are doing it because it works. I agree with the majority of your comment. I haven't yet found a use case to justify running this myself. I did find one use case that impressed me though. There's an OpenClaw agent that's actively answering questions on the #help channel of their Discord server[1]. So I asked it a question as I was getting started. It answered in < 2 mins with a detailed explanation of my issue, how to fix it, and asked relevant questions to guide me. The answer was better than I received from Claude or Gemini. I'm still not sure if I personally need OpenClaw, but the Krill bot offers pretty great support. I would be curious to know what it costs them to provide this. [1] https://discord.com/invite/clawd

I love how people in the thread are like "if I'm going to ask my group of friends to switch to this, I need to know it's not written by security-issue-generator machines", meanwhile at Discord LLMs go brrr: https://discord.com/blog/developing-rapidly-with-generative-ai

We’re building Chaotic, a high-performance 3D game engine and editor written in Rust. It targets WebAssembly and WebGL2, making it possible to deliver near-native performance and console-quality visuals directly in the browser. On top of the engine, we’re currently developing a multiplayer cozy farming game inspired by Animal Crossing called Fireflies Meadow: https://firefliesmeadow.com/?admin=SkipTheLine&skip=IKnowWhatIAmDo… Fireflies Meadow isn’t ready for prime time yet, but we’re proud of the progress so far and actively iterating on it. If you’re interested in the engine, the game, or just want to follow along, feel free to reach out on our Discord: https://discord.com/invite/mHsQayQNdp I’d be curious to hear your feedback on whether the game is working for you or not.

Location: SF / Remote Remote: Mostly (Open to 0 - 3 days/wk in office) Willing to relocate: No Technologies: Rust, Elixir, Typescript, Python Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brian-armstrong-sf/ Email: [email protected] Hello HN! I'm a Staff Software Engineer with a variety of backend experience. I helped Discord scale its WebRTC system and helped guide its media infra (blog post: https://discord.com/blog/how-discord-resizes-150-million-ima... ). Currently open to work where I can put my skills to use and help get your projects into production. Some of my personal and working traits: I'm a big fan of data-driven decision making. I think the best time to think about "how are we going to deploy this" is before any code gets written. I think empathy is underrated and I prefer over-communication to under-. Cheers!

> got confused by the AI sections... You're not the only one... At some point last year, we discovered that CI/CD workflows and so-called "AI agent workflows" have a lot in common, and Dagger can in theory be used as an execution engine for both. We attempted to explain this - "great for CI/CD and for Agents!". But the feedback was mostly negative - it came across as confusing and lacking focus. So, we are rolling back this messaging and refocusing on CI/CD again. If you haven't checked our docs in the latest 12 hours, it's worth checking again: you'll see clear signs of this refocusing (although we are not done). In doubt, I recommend joining our public discord server (https://discord.com/invite/dagger-io) it is basically a support group for CI/CD nerds who believe that a better way is possible, and want to discuss it with like-minded people. Thanks for the kind words!

3D-Agent is like cursor but for Blender. It has a complex AI Agents workflows and works by using python scripts. It is a faster and easier way to use Blender! Very useful to sketch, create more efficient workflows and to learn Blender - since you can just ask the AI what should be done (it usually knows better what should be done compared to executing it!) Inspired by blender-mcp kudos to them! Join our discord: https://discord.com/invite/NxKFCvHQpg Best! Guil

I think rewriting something in another language can be a great idea, especially if $CURRENT_LANG does not have a sane way of configuring its features. https://discord.com/blog/why-discord-is-switching-from-go-to-rust

The linked Discord post is also interesting and fun to read. Most of the post is more serious but this is one of the small gems: > One thing we discovered very quickly was that [world cup] goals scored showed up in our monitoring graphs. This was very cool because not only is it neat to see real-world events show up in your systems, but this gave our team an excuse to watch soccer during meetings. We weren’t “watching soccer during meetings”, we were “proactively monitoring our systems’ performance.” https://discord.com/blog/how-discord-stores-trillions-of-messages It is linked as evidence for Discord using "less than a petabyte" of storage for messages. My best guess is that they multiplied node size and count from this post, which comes out to 708 TB for the old cluster and 648 in the new setup (presumably it also has some space to grow)

Thank you. There is still a lot of work left to get it controlling it's first machine. I am currently figuring out how best to build for all the mcu and board combinations I expect to support, and then wiring up motion control to the UI. Just got the node-graph interface for csgrs working and there's still a lot left to flesh it out fully. Advancing slowly :D Please consider joining the Discord: https://discord.com/invite/cCHRjpkPhQ I'm the only one in there at the moment. Bring friends! lol

Hey, so if you go to for example https://shaderacademy.com/challenge/raymarching_3 and open Learning section and scroll through there. We literally link these great resources you mentioned. Also, we literally have discord with resources where we link a lot of them https://discord.com/channels/1358424822551674880/1358427735969763451 Do you think we should put these inspirations more on homepage?

This is something we've been working on and are planning to release a "decision" update to the game which should allow for multi-step, configurable options to choose if the LLM actually gets to contribute to the current world / chat. There's a lot of trial and error involved and we're all ears, if you have ideas we'd love to hear them! We actively monitor our discord https://discord.com/invite/theinterface

KAPLAY is the successor to Kaboom.js which was unfortunately abandoned. As for Phaser VS KAPLAY: Performance wise, Phaser is still better however there are perfs improvement coming to KAPLAY. KAPLAY has an easier to use syntax for its API. Things are easier to do in KAPLAY VS Phaser while being less verbose. Phaser however, has more features considering it's more battle tested since it's been around for far longer. I recommend joining the KAPLAY discord to see what others are building. I'm not aware of any famous games made in KAPLAY yet. https://discord.com/invite/aQ6RuQm3TF

Thanks, I tried to tone down the self promotion. To be completely honest, I was up all night coding so I'm not quite at 100% at the moment lol. I have massive respect for OpenAI and didn't mean to to try to distract from their launch. Sorry to anyone I annoyed! I really appreciate your willingness to try Plandex and look forward to hearing your feedback! You can ping me in the Plandex Discord if you want—would love to get more HNers in the channel: https://discord.com/invite/plandex-ai Or email me: [email protected]

Yeah, good point. It's kinda common to have a big footer. Examples: https://getbootstrap.com/, https://discord.com/, https://tailwindcss.com/ That way on desktop you could get away with a 50vh margin under the content and then another 50vh for the footer. That's free overscroll.

I really like what Pirate Software does. He runs Game Jams (https://itch.io/jam/pirate) which are a great way to build small things as a way to learn. There's also a very active Discord community: https://discord.com/invite/piratesoftware

Location: SF, CA Remote: Open to remote or hybrid Willing to relocate: No Technologies: Rust, Elixir, Typescript, Python, C++, WebRTC Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brian-armstrong-sf/ Email: [email protected] Hi HN. I'm currently considering my next job. Previously I worked at Discord for 7 years, mostly on the WebRTC Infrastructure team, where I helped scale and improve the reliability of Discord's Voice and Video calling. I also created a Go service to handle resizing of hundreds of millions of attachments per day. https://discord.com/blog/how-discord-resizes-150-million-images-every-… I'm a proponent of going deep to understand technical limitations. I think that clean code and unit tests were always great, and with LLMs at our disposal, are now must-haves. I'm looking for a big challenge and a fearless team.
