Love this. Reminds of when I spent countless hours using a webcam to scan in all books, movies, and games to Delicious Library[0]. [0] https://delicious-monster.com/

I agree: that price is way too high, at least for private book owners. For Mac users, the competiton is Delicious Library (http://delicious-monster.com/) for a one-time $25. Yes, that's not 'online', but is 'online' worth $300+ per year? Not to me, and I doubt I am an exception. And yes, a library could input 1M books. For that, $30/month is nothing. However, I suspect they would want features such as the ability to add metadata such as a shelf number. They also would want to integrate this into their accounting system. So, to me, this looks like a product that is too big for consumers and (still?) too small for professional librarians.

I'm a parent with kids who go to a small private school. All our own photo sharing needs are met with what we have but your private school blogging idea makes more sense to me. There are lots of things you could do. Your site could accept submissions from parents who want their kids to get attention. Parents could create their own subsets to highlight the events involving their kids. The school could encourage kids to write their own accounts of the events. The best stuff could automatically go into an online yearbook. Sell them a $10 compact disk when their kids graduate. One thing to keep in mind if you try to sell something to the schools directly is that they have annual budgets. The best approach would not be to ask for money upfront but to charge them at the end of whatever "year" makes sense for them. One person you may want to focus your efforts on is the school librarian. The one at the my kids school is also in charge of the library web site. I'm pretty sure she would be interested in a system that made it easy to organize pictures and discussions of new books along with pictures of the kids. While I haven't used it (and it's a Mac-only app with a companion iOS app for scanning), I've heard many people rave about Delicious Library from Delicious Monster: http://www.delicious-monster.com

If you're using macOS, There's delicious library [0] and librarian pro [1] I'm aware of. There might be other alternatives too. [0]: https://www.delicious-monster.com/ [1]: https://www.koingosw.com/products/librarianpro/

Been there... since my library is now a little over a thousand physical books, and in multiple languages. If you have a Mac, get a copy of Delicious Library (https://www.delicious-monster.com/) and a compatible barcode scanner, like the Flic. If you have an Android phone, and you're happy with dealing with your phone and CSV export, you'll probably be okay with Libib (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.libib.app). The biggest issue is that there are tonnes of books (especially if like me you have older ones) that predate ISBN. That kinda sucks - but it's life.

"Have you considered creating an app which has a barcode scanner which populates the item database? It was my understanding that barcodes were unique to each item. Is there not a way to pull the item name from a barcode?" --> http://delicious-monster.com

Did Apple steal Delicious library idea... yeah probably. Just deal with it and move forward with your idea. clickable links: http://www.delicious-monster.com/ http://www.apple.com/ipad/built-in-apps/ibooks.html

For those who don't know, Wil Shipley is the author of Delicious Library. <http://delicious-monster.com/> A perennially popular MacOS app. It is a great way to catalog most everything you own. It started off being only for books, but since has acquired the ability to keep track of just about anything.

I was hoping for something similar to delicious library - http://www.delicious-monster.com/ - where you scan the bar code and you have access to it in your library :). (yes, there are tons of ways to abuse this, but it'd still be nice)

I agree that physical metaphors are overused. Unfortunately, they sell software: http://delicious-monster.com/images/librarypage/screenshots/Delicious-…

I wonder if the folks at Delicious Library are upset about Apple's new 'iBooks' app, that essentially looks the same as theirs. http://www.delicious-monster.com/images/librarypage/screenshots/Delici… http://images.huffingtonpost.com/gen/136360/thumbs/s-IBOOKS-STORE-larg…
