Google "windows 11 debloat reddit". There are several tools: - https://github.com/Raphire/Win11Debloat (recommended elsewhere in this thread) - https://christitus.com/windows-tool/ (I used this one a couple weeks ago, seems to work well) But seriously though, learn to fish. The answers aren't hard to find if you look, know what to search for, and are at least somewhat discriminating in your investigation.

I have not had luck getting Case Catalyst to run well in WINE and it is not in the WINE AppDB. WINE is great software, but just stick with Windows, so you don't have two problems. Also, uninstall any extra software (so called "crapware") that came installed on your laptop. These are notorious for hogging resources. Often this comes in the form of antivirus software and "lite" software suites that nag you for subscriptions constantly. Uninstall anything Symantec, Norton or Adobe (unless you absolutely need it). I personally use Chris Titus's WinUtil to debloat: https://christitus.com/windows-tool/

I would also like to joke that you’re describing Linux, but there’s a great tool by Chris Titus, the YouTuber: https://christitus.com/windows-tool/ It has worked well for me on a gaming system that does not contain sensitive data, check it out.

I cannot recommend the Chris Titus Win Util enough here. It's a powershell GUI over power shell scripts overseen by one talented windows engineer with contributions from hundreds. https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/winutil https://christitus.com/windows-tool/ There are youtube videos: https://www.youtube.com/c/ChrisTitusTech It's a simple way to declutter windows 10 and or 11, build custom stripped install images, install useful utilities and dev environs, etc. For any that care to look under the hood (and there are a number) it's open and transparent and a good way to get that Windows VM image for hosted OS's, gameplay, Qubes OS, etc.

I personally use the following: - MSys2 - unix tools for windows - wsl - Windows subsystem for linux - Powershell + Powershell ISE - windows shell + dev tool - starship - prompt config that also works on Powershell - scoop - package manager (similar to apt and others) installs to your user directory - The ultimate windows utility - debloat and installer https://christitus.com/windows-tool/ - my dotfiles I still prefer POSIX stuff, but this way it is acceptable, especially scoop package manager is the most useful tool to save time installing software without admin permissions.

What's fun is if you actually dig into the Atlas repo, it's primarily a pile of NTLite tweaks[1] plus a batch file that automatically applies a bunch of CTT tweaks, particularly the ones around updates and UWP that he explicitly doesn't recommend.[2] Anyway, Titus also has a guide on making a "custom Windows ISO" using NTLite.[3] [1]: https://github.com/Atlas-OS/Atlas/blob/main/src/Atlas_20H2.xml [2]: https://github.com/Atlas-OS/Atlas/blob/main/src/AtlasModules/atlas-con… [3]: https://christitus.com/ntlite-guide/

My first encounter with Nix was using it that way to get my favorite tools on the university computer lab without convincing the admins to install them for me. Today, some Steam Deck users are using Nix to supplement their console's desktop experience with familiar tools without the overhead of Flatpak or the risk of modifying the base system (in which case modifications are nuked on SteamOS updates anyhow). Determinate Systems did some work to enable and document that, and one YouTuber recently posted an intro/walkthrough of their docs as well. Video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ttOs5iWgNzk Secondary documentation (YouTuber's blog): https://christitus.com/steamdeck-as-a-desktop/ Primary documentation by Determinate Systems: https://determinate.systems/posts/nix-on-the-steam-deck (Some of the work relevant here was done by folks outside of Determinate Systems as well. The installer workgroup is not exclusively DSers.) Sometimes it just fits a use case so much better than alternatives that it's an obvious choice.

10LTSC + Office 2016 + open shell is the peak windows experience. 2016 was the last year you could autosave documents locally, then fucking OneDrive. Grab an ISO from Massgrave, write using Rufus and two scripts later your fully tweaked. irm https://get.activated.win | iex iwr -useb https://christitus.com/win | iex

PSA for those using windows at home: someone else has already done all the work removing spyware / unnecessary junk / mandatory login, etc. https://github.com/topics/windows-11-debloat I think I used this guide https://christitus.com/windows-11-perfect-install/

Closest you’ll likely get for that closed source operating system is “Install Windows the Arch Way”: https://christitus.com/install-windows-the-arch-linux-way/

For anyone not interested in installing foreign OS, I like to use Chris Titus' tweaks. https://christitus.com/windows-tool/
ulzeraj · 2021-06-22
I also have no idea how to do on Windows but disabling those mitigations along with other unnecessary Windows 10 stuff can be done through Chris Titus' debloat program: https://christitus.com/debloat-windows-10/
