I'd strongly recommend you check out http://www.carryology.com for all sorts of bag reviews.
They are currently doing their 2017 awards, which are broken down by category such as best work backpack - http://www.carryology.com/best-work-backpack-top-10-the-fifth-annual-c…

I spend too much money on knapsacks because I fetishize them. For purely utilitarian purposes a basic school knapsack is just fine.
There's a website called carryology that has comprehensive reviews of all the fancy designer and boutique backpacks out there:

Which one is best? Whichever one you feel best serves as a projection of your identity as a commuter. Casual commuter backpacks are actually really simple and it's hard to fuck up.
I'm currently using a chrome industries Barrage cargo backpack:

Why? Cuz it looks cool. Otherwise it's just some shoulder straps and a bunch compartments to hold your crap like any other backpack.

A little Googling finds the founders - Jason Sun [1] and Ben Yi [2] - both worked at KILLSPENCER [3] before starting Vinted Goods [4]. While it's true that both sites have a top nav, I couldn't find any pics of someone operating a sewing machine on either site. Either way, the products seem similar, but what would you expect from a mentor/protege relationship?

Edit: The owner of KILLSPENCER, Spencer Nikosey [5] has a few interesting interview nuggets [6][7]:
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
I'm most proud of the upcoming products and relationships I've built with the members of our SPECIAL PROJECTS INNOVATION TEAM. (This is the team Jason and Ben were on.)
WHO DO YOU BOUNCE IDEAS OFF AND/OR GET INSPIRED BY?
I have a small group of mentors. These people are amazing at what they do. I give them products and they use them, and give me feedback on how to improve the designs, construction, etc. I'm so lucky to have such amazing people interested in supporting the vision.
TAKE US BRIEFLY THROUGH YOUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND. WHERE HAVE YOU WORKED BEFORE LAUNCHING YOUR OWN COMPANY?
I launched my business straight out of school. While in school, I had the opportunity to intern for some great people. Scott Robertson (Design Studio Press) is where I got my first work experience. I spent so much time observing and…

I carry a boreas bolinas around most days. It works. It's a bit overbuilt for going to and from the office but super comfy when I have to walk across town with a laptop.

The poster who originally wrote those words, wrote them in context of a much larger post. (That phrase was 0.8% of the entire posts by word count). That post was written in response to a propaganda article [0] that got 130+ upvotes. You can't expect a response to propaganda to not include at least a little rhetoric.
And as far as the quality of discussion, the point it really went downhill was when this responder seized on that one small sentence (0.8% of the post!) and responded with pure empty rhetoric: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10225065
> If you want serious debate I'd suggest you can start by not defending the comment that's clearly overstepped the boundary on what constitutes serious debate.
No. If you want serious debate, don't defend a comment that skimmed a thoughtful contribution to cherry-pick the most potentially objectionable bit of rhetoric and then posture off an out-of-context quote of it. And, don't repeat that same mistake.

TeamCarryology: @Brad, I think you've missed the point entirely. Through this piece, and by using 'carry'as a thread, we're able to bring this 'serious' and dire crisis to the attention of our 130K + readers, in the hope that they may take interest in these people and visit the International Rescue Committee to learn more.
