I have a family of 6 and there are no decently priced EVs that fit it. I use a Model 3 for our daily driver (since all 6 of us usually are not going out together) and have a Sienna when we go out as a family, or for long distances. I don't want an SUV, frankly I want the Canoo (https://www.canoo.com/) - but I am pretty sure they are going to be vaporware in a few years. Maybe the new Volkswagen will work. (WRT large families, even a 2 + 2 might have to drive the grandparents or visiting family members.)

These giant trucks are entirely absurd. I, a truck customer, want a small practical pickup. Nil exist, unless you buy older used models (eg a 90s ranger or toyota pickup) or (subjectively) less practical models for actually hauling cargo. I also want electric. The market is regearing towards electric trucks, but they are also obscene! Rivian has a completely rad e truck, but its so expensive its unobtainable for us common folk. Im excited for https://www.canoo.com/pickup/. The xbus https://electricbrands.de/en/myxbus/ is amazing, but not coming to the US last i checked. Id love it if we had constraints that added impedance to having MASSIVE vehicles just for vanity.

Canoo ( https://www.canoo.com/ ), because that van looks cool!

The Canoo seven seat electric vehicle is supposed to be released soon. https://www.canoo.com/ edit: It was originally supposed to go on sale "late 2021" now I see it's "late 2022".

This sounds like an ideal partnership with a company like Canoo (https://www.canoo.com/), which is focused on creating the "skateboard" of EVs. If people don't truly care about the authenticity of their DeLorean, seems like building on someone else's platform is the obvious path.

Funny :D The "Lifestyle" part is the body, and the "delivery" part is the configuration (seating, roof rack, etc) https://www.canoo.com/canoo/

Canoo is trying something like that. It's a pretty utilitarian looking vehicle. Deliveries are supposed to begin by the end of this year. Not sure if that's still the case. https://www.canoo.com/pickup/

I believe the biggest cause of the JVM start up times were initializing the static members of classes. Gilad Bracha wrote more here http://canoo.com/blog/2010/05/07/java-post-mortem-with-gilad-bracha/

Canoo also builds EVs for NASA: https://www.canoo.com/nasa/

> Every time I see this I wonder if the commentor has seen a hydraulic power steering pump. They're tiny as hydraulic and pneumatic drives are often quite a bit smaller than comparable electric ones (e.g. cordless vs pneumatic power tools). The pump or motor size is totally irrelevant to this discussion and the packaging advantages. There is no steering column with drive by wire. If you have seen a mechanical steering column, as found in all hydraulic and electric power steering systems, it requires a significant amount of space to route from cabin to the front wheels, and you are limited in the paths it can take to reach the rack. This is completely gone in drive by wire - that's the packaging advantage - not the pump, not the motors. Taken to the extreme, you can do designs that are completely impossible with mechanical steering columns - see the Canoo design for example, which uses steer by wire to create a cabin impossible with a mechanical link: https://www.canoo.com/canoo/ You can even design interiors that can switch from left hand to right hand drive, with a sliding steering wheel.
