I've bought a bunch of stuff of Bryan Johnsons supplement list (a reasonable amount, 8-9/day) and he recommends 100mg, not sure if he's researched that one properly but he's usually pretty open about it https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.co/#step-2-supplements I will try 200-300mg instead

I just started following Bryan's journey two weeks ago. I didn't get the same impression as you. I always thought it's implied he's talking about what's good for him, not all people. He then uses that as a framework for something others could pickup and incorporate in their lives. I like the iterative nature of his work - he always tries to improve the recipes and supplements he takes. I always see a lot of negative comments about the guy here on HN, and he's basically hacking his own body and publishes everything for free[0]. [0] https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.co/

I'm sure. Just trying to illustrate that there's no total replacement for the "real thing". You may say "of course", but we have people like Bryan Johnson running on drug/supplement cocktails, in a "scientistic" pursuit of Goodhart's Law. I just hope that he falls apart visibly rather than invisibly, so others don't try to follow in his footsteps. https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.co/

If you look at his regimen, which he documented extensively, it is actually very thorough and well-researched. There is very little to criticize in there, given his goals. It is a refreshing contrast to all the many people in this field who are pushing a quack diet to sell books, or who have rejected the scientific method and decided that "natural" means good. This is the opposite of that. He has all the money he needs and just wants to actually figure out how to make himself as healthy as possible, using the best science. https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.co/

> In August 2022, I started 17aE2, non feminizing estradiol (Rx), based upon male longevity evidence. My dosing protocol is 4mg wk, transdermal. Since we started, there’s been no change to serum estrogen or testosterone and no known side effects. Source: https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.co/#diet-and-supplements

If you're looking for perfection= https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.co/#step-1-meal-prep Otherwise I'd say one to two pound of veggies and fruits(+80% veggies) Enough unprocessed protein sources to get 1 or 2g/kg 3 table spoons of extra virgin olive oil legumes, nuts and seeds and you should be good also very important:Cronometer does NOT have the list of precise nutrients for every food out there, in a lot of cases they only have the protein/fat/carbs/sugars data, check if they have the complete data for all the foods you're adding also don't hesitate about using supplements, especially omega-3 DHA/EPA and D vitamin

He literally puts his bench on his website: it's 240lb. I know what he benches because he told me. Neither you nor I have to wonder about anything. The plasma cycle thing is odd and I have concerns about coercion. However, I think most people are critical of him because he's richer and/or fitter than they are or because he's unusual, not making a principled moral stand. They're missing out: his self-experimentation is fascinating. 90% of it is probably bullshit or only gives a tiny incremental gain, but I just think it's neat that he keeps an unhinged geocities-tier[0] page detailing why he eats hummus with un-dutched dark chocolate from low heavy metal plantations. It's even neater that it's actually working for him in some empirical sense. [0] https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.co

The particularly interesting take-away for this audience is probably Bryan's Blueprint website at https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.co/

Worse than not having fun; you have to take all these pills a day. https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.co/#step-2-supplements I think there's an in-between. Getting sleep. Fasting. Exercise. Avoiding sugar.

Adopt the religion of biological age. ie, re-conceptualize your age as something that is correlated to your health, mortality and existential risk. Further its a number you have control to change. Exercising, eating healthier and learning more deeply about your body will give many options to feel better. The continued onslaught of scientific longevity advances will feel optimistic to your beliefs. Example: https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.co/

https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.co/Step-1-Step-2-Step-3 Disregarding the supplement regiment, lunch and dinner appear pretty sensible. Broccoli, Lentils, and Mushrooms for lunch every day sounds a little repetitive. Lunch could just as easily be a different soup or stew every day, with a lot more variety. Instead he appears to be blending it into a gazpacho.
