somewhat related to this, i came across the following blog the other day (possibly an HNer?)
https://blog.networkprofile.org
which details steps taken by the author to mitigate any future outages like what they experienced in the past. really thorough and interesting to think through what grid independence takes, plus any related costs/maintenance.

I followed the guide at https://blog.networkprofile.org/gps-backed-local-ntp-server/ which references that article. Fun little project for old Pi's laying around.

To all the comments on energy usage, check this out! this person is using solar power, https://blog.networkprofile.org/17kw-enphase-solar-install/

Looks like he is powering at least part of his installation through solar: https://blog.networkprofile.org/17kw-enphase-solar-install/

I'm relying on this blog post[0] that was originally posted to r/homelab, which stated $20K for purchase and installation of a 27 kW Generac.
While I am comfortable running new branch circuits and panels to code, I suspect most people are not.
