Likewise. I follow several thoughtful creators like Asianometry[0] and haven't seen anything like what GP's describing.

The Asianometry newsletter wrote a really insightful newsletter about the US Government's Semiconductor Chip Buying Problem[1] (He also has Youtube video[2] you can watch on the same newsletter)
In the newsletter and video he talks about the US's Trusted Foundry Program and the different pitfalls and challenges that came with the program.

"In 2007, Apple significantly dialed down its MacBook manufacturing business with Asus and the company had to respond. That same year, they announced that they would hive off their original design manufacturing business into a 100% owned subsidiary called Pegatron. Management hoped this would reassure their customers that improper information cannot be shared across lines.
But the conflicts of interest persisted. And even got worse when Asus released its hit Eee laptop product. The first so-called netbook, the low-end PC sold 5 million units at the start and presented a real threat to Pegatron's customers. They were eating in other companies' market share. "

> semiconductor foundries: Why should Japan have excelled here vs any other country?
Japan did have a thriving semiconductor industry early on but key Japanese companies made wrong choices wrt technologies and obviously TSMC ran away with the market. Nikon was a competitor to ASML until the EUV revolution, etc.

Seems that recycling is really well established/developed and is really just a minor inconvenience and a cost that the chip makers will get to once they can't proceed as usual.

In several of the hyper-capitalist developmentalist East Asian states, all land is merely leased from the government:
Singapore - https://stackedhomes.com/editorial/land-ownership-in-singapore/#gs.u00…

Some of this might have been because of the impression Georgism had on some of the Chinese revolutionaries, including Sun Yat-Sen himself:

It's also because, by coincidence, U.S. State Department official Wolf Ladejinsky was influenced by Georgism. He was certainly no fan of communism, as he was a Ukrainian refugee from Bolshevik rule!

Incidentally, while Taiwan does not have exclusive government ownership of land unlike Singapore, Hong Kong, or mainland China, it is a very successful example of land reform (which involved confiscation):
