I've started going to city meetings in Cupertino and Sunnyvale, and I agree the only solution is top down.
I want the newly available Cupertion Vallco site to be full of housing, but I've resigned myself to the fact that Cupertino just isn't going to do it. The mayor doesn't want it, and the home owners don't want it. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up with more office space than housing.
In Cupertino, Palo Alto, etc. housing is currently controlled by local nimby interests. We do have a state oversite process: https://abag.ca.gov/planning/housingneeds/. CA knows we're not doing the right thing, here and in the rest of the state. Check out the statewide housing assessment: http://www.hcd.ca.gov/policy-research/plans-reports/index.shtml. It shows the picture clearly. We're like a person driving a car with their feet - we're just doing something dumb. We need to get around the political inertia to change our current approach.
The state process just doesn't have enough grip to get our hands back on the wheel. It seems like sb 828 might improve the oversite https://artplusmarketing.com/california-needs-a-housing-first-agenda-m…
Looking around for what we can literally do as citizens, I found our state senator had an open house last week, but I missed it with a cold. So, show up and ask for more housing and ask him to get sb 827 and 828 passed! If you're local, follow his schedule at…

As a trained writer but not a journalist, I feel there are two noteworthy points to consider in this rebuttal.
The first is what set me off so terribly at Avi Selk, formerly of the Dallas Morning News, and now at the Washington Post, based on his framing of the Ahmed Mohamed "Clock Boy" story at first [1]. Here's the admission:
>I simplified Pieter's story to fit the narrative I thought I saw. I was blinded by what I thought sounded like a good story.
...which is an admission I think is about on par with Stephen Glass-level of integrity, and should be a footer on any resume sent out to potential editors in the future, enjoined with the second:
>Pieter implied in this comment that I didn't write the truth and that I am embody what is wrong with journalism today. He compared my story to "fake news." I think this is a stretch.
...which basically shows there is an integral lack of self-critical thinking, because the first quote is essentially an admission that the second quote can't bear to live with.
Again, I look at these situations as an outsider; I am grateful to not be involved in the business of "reporting" or "journalism" because in modern times I think they have very little inherent credibility prima face. Major news trends and outlets are running with emotionally charged, "I feel this is the story" which isn't journalism. I know when I'm writing an emotionally based hypothesis and try to frame it as such - unfounded speculation, idle musings...

In 2016, I identified and wrote about the lack of retina support for Gimp here https://artplusmarketing.com/gimp-and-inkscape-on-retina-macs-do-not-w… . I know Inkscape got retina support since then, but as I understood it, Gimp was waiting for better Mac GTK support or something. Does anyone know if Gimp has fixed the retina issues I wrote about years ago yet?

Even the densely populated UK has significant proportions where nobody lives:
https://artplusmarketing.com/nobody-lives-here-united-kingdom-e2f6afdd…
Edit: I suspect the grid squares being used are of different sizes, but even so - the crowded bits of the UK are even more crowded than the overall population density would suggest.

"Because that’s not how we use the web. People don’t visit a single site to seek out content. They search then nimbly hop from link to link building knowledge from an amalgamation of sources. The entire web is one big site."
"Given these usage patterns, paywalls fail miserably. The typical consumer would have to sign up to hundreds of properties, costing thousands of dollars per month. If they consumed every bit of content at the New York Times, the $25/month could be fair. But they don’t, leaving them with a glut of extremely underutilized and over-priced subscriptions."

This is basically the setup I've been discussing in my articles about a decentralised Reddit alternative. A system where forums are all hosted independently, but can share login data, reputation data, post history, etc.
https://artplusmarketing.com/discussing-a-decentralised-reddit-alterna…
It would hopefully avert the issue Reddit like sites have where different groups want to control what others can say on the platform, by taking control out of the hands of a large corporation.

Recently I stumbled upon this on press kit [1], which I've found pretty interesting.
I think the 3 "must have" are pretty solid:
1. Focus your press kit on clear, branded messages.
2. Give your press kit a founder story and a company or product core story
3. You have to create the focus with repetition, and repetition, and more repetition.

The state senator for San Francisco (Scott Wiener) is trying to do just that[0].
In a city known for wacky politicians, Scott Wiener was a breath of fresh air. He also signed the city's long term Subway plan[1].

I wholehearted disagree with regulations that require parking spaces. People are less likely to own cars if they knew they were paying extra to park them. Parking spaces should have prices, so we can use the market to distribute them in their scarcity. We call that: unbundled parking.[0]
As it is, paid parking is being tremendously undercut by free parking. People will go very far out of their way, roaming the streets for hours every week looking for a rare free parking spot, but there is almost no will to build a guaranteed spot in a paid parking structure.
This contributes to traffic, greenhouse gas emissions, wear on infrastructure, noxious gases emitted in residential neighborhoods, and poisonous relations between neighbors.
A related issue is that cars require a tremendous amount of space for what they provide, and there is no way we can afford to build enough spaces for all the cars that we think we can own because the parking is free. Even if the parking was adequate when new, it is not adequate anymore. And even when new, adequate parking was enormously expensive.[1]
My own neighborhood in San Francisco was built in the 1950s for single-family, single-earner households. Then women joined the workforce. Then children grew up needing cars. Then families doubled up in one house, or landlords turned the homes into rooming houses; and a house with a 1-car garage is now associated with 5 cars or more.
The price to sell is not directly connected to the cost to…

I am open to any and all feedback, so I am not offended at all friend!
To be honest, I am not necessarily asking for you to care about what I am doing. What I am looking for is constructive feedback, which you provided me in your comment, so thank you!
What makes us different is we are not only going to unify, but also provide native messaging through our app. For this reason, we will introduce features that set us apart solely for being a native messaging app.
I agree email is basically useless at this point. Later down the road, we do have plans to have our app help in the overthrowing of email and eventually replacing it with messaging. You can read more about that here if you would like - https://artplusmarketing.com/can-messaging-replace-email-a835ec29f839#…
Some apps we definitely won't be able to integrate with. We will need to start lean and work from there meaning only having a handful of integrations to begin. From there we will be able to get a bigger dev team and work around API limitations.
I really apprecaite you responding and all of your feedback!

I've been using this fully automated system for the last 5 years.
I store my photo archive on a Synology NAS at home which syncs to Dropbox and uploads a copy of each photo to Google Photos for browsing and sharing. I'm hoping to switch to Backblaze, from Dropbox, once Synology Photos is available and drop Google Photos as well.
I've documented the entire process and include source code on Github.
