I like the place I work, it's pragmatic, doesn't jump on every bandwagon, ships features to customers (I've worked places that just couldn't get things shipped), has interesting problems, blameless culture, 100% remote. Still a good size for me, not too big, not tiny. Great CTO who is very intelligent, kind, yet firm when he disagrees.
I doubt we're setting trends. It's just a lovely place to work. https://www.aha.io/

I don't know if I view managers as having to do with marketing, we would try out project managers. This was after my time at the company, but they're sort of like manager's, except performing more of an organizational task, rather than potentially hiring/firing. They'd play more of a mediator between engineers and other teammates in the group dynamics.
Tools: at Boostable we had Aha (https://www.aha.io/). And we would have the founder Alex split the tickets up. Aha would disseminate the tickets into Pivotal Tracker (https://www.pivotaltracker.com/).
Aha played a really big role in top-down delegation of tasks and equating them to business objectives. That software is pretty cool and I recommend checking it out, because I think in some cases it can make manager's redundant.
After that, it was autonomous. I created a lot of issues by myself directly in Pivotal (which probably lends to them not being recognized officially, since Aha was where the business impact was overviewed)

I work for Aha![0]. I'm wary of trying to define the culture of one company in terms of another, so I'll just tell you about where I work, and you can decide.
We are a fully distributed team, and we build a lovable product. We published a book called Lovability[1] to help explain how we do it. We support each other, congratulate each other, and push hard to make it happen; these things require trust and talent in every part of the organization. I am a better person (and engineer) for having worked at this company.
Here are the pillars of our culture[2]:
* Have purpose: You know what you are working towards. You are aware of what success is and guided back to the purpose if you wind up in the weeds.
* Value work: You have the opportunity to achieve and to do something important. Doing great work is valued and recognized.
* Teach hard: Direct feedback is given on a regular basis to help you improve your skills every day.
* Grows talent: There is a framework for success, people are trained on it and given room to grow. There is trust that people will step into challenging roles as the organization needs them to. Promotions occur from within.
* Honor reality: Neither time nor money is invested in manipulation. Work is guided by values and purpose.
* Work it: Work sometimes requires great effort. However, it does not burn you out but instead keeps you going.

For product design methods and collaborative exercises: https://www.aha.io You can use component libraries like skeleton UI:https://www.skeleton.dev/ or Schadcn: https://ui.shadcn.com/, so you don't have to design the components an style guides yourself. If you are interested in reading just one book and be confident about your design decisions, read : The User Experience Team of One by Leah Buley.

My organisation uses Aha (https://www.aha.io/) for all of our products. Personally I like it and I believe it meets both of your requirements.
Regarding 1): it has a structured framework where you define your product vision, then break it down into goals and initiatives, then break the initiatives into features. The dev team further breaks down the work into TFS tickets, and Aha integrates with TFS.
Regarding 2) It does change tracking on everything, so you can view the prior history of any ticket in the system.

It's not free, and it's not simple, but Aha (https://www.aha.io) can be very helpful in figuring out product.
Engaging end users is a problem from a couple of directions. First, the very idea of "end user" - you need to engage customers, not end users. (Take Facebook, for example... you're not the customer, you're the product. If you build something for Facebook, your customer is Facebook, not Facebook's users.) This situation isn't exactly unusual. In this case, it's the customer's responsibility to gather feedback from end users - and put you in the feedback loop, as needed.

> * Devops engineers with Ruby experience.
You have a Sr. Platform Engineer[0] listing that is looking specifically for Rails, and not just Ruby. Was this the position you're referring to, and is Ruby experience sufficient, or is Rails a hard requirement?
