My personal favorite is pianobar: https://6xq.net/pianobar/. It's a CLI client.

Not the best, but https://webapps.stackexchange.com/questions/12202/is-there-a-way-to-ex… Additionally, Pandora does have an API that allows you to pull your favorites. https://6xq.net/pandora-apidoc/json/

Check out pianobar, a command line Pandora client. It works great for me! http://6xq.net/projects/pianobar/

EUMEL maybe? https://6xq.net/eumel/ (Z80, M68000 and later x86 as well)

I wish Pandora's APIs were more open. There's a library for their radio feature[0] but no API for their music subscription service. [0] https://6xq.net/pianobar/

ELAN was specifically developed to be used in the systematic teaching of programming to students in secondary education. As such it had very much the same goals as BASIC, but given that it was developed a decade later, and with one of the authors of the Algol 68 report leading the development group, it was much richer. Some information for those interested is still at http://www.cs.ru.nl/elan/ and there's an implementation for the language there as well. An interesting tidbit is that ELAN was used for the EUMEL system by Jochen Liedtke, who took what he learned to develop the L3 and later L4 microkernels; see also https://6xq.net/eumel/

Not Spotify, but for Pandora nothing beats pianobar[1]. I've been using it for years and it's just a delight. No bloated interface, simple and quick to use. 1: https://6xq.net/pianobar/ or https://github.com/PromyLOPh/pianobar

If anyone wants a way to avoid the Flash site now, be sure to check out pianobar[0] and/or Pithos[1]. I've been using them for years in my attempts to completely avoid Flash usage (VLC for YouTube, Vimeo, etc.). 0: http://6xq.net/projects/pianobar/ 1: http://kevinmehall.net/p/pithos/

Cli-junkie brofist! I only drop out of the command line for occasional one-off browser stuff. Depending on your current familiarity with things, I can't recommend enough simply combing through the tools in coreutils, util-linux, find-utils etc. If you take just three or so a day, by the end of a few months you'll have a solid survey-understanding of what almost every *nix shell has available. Apart from that, here are some I use and enjoy: [0]:http://abook.sourceforge.net/ -- Vintage address book; Plays well with mutt [1]:http://git-annex.branchable.com -- A better Dropbox, and via git! [2]:https://www.lesbonscomptes.com/recoll/ -- Index and search the contents and metadata of (pdf, word, etc) documents [3]:https://www.roaringpenguin.com/products/remind -- Vintage and sophisticated tool for doing calendrical stuff. [4]:https://github.com/trizen/youtube-viewer -- CLI YouTube with all the bells and whistles! [5]:https://6xq.net/pianobar/ -- Pandora radio!

Rented Office Space Desk is L-shaped turned to face the windows. Aeron office chair with ergo seat cushion. 15" 2015 MBP 16GB of RAM 30" IPS Asus and 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display on dual monitor arm to keep them off the desk/free up a lot of space. Mac Model S Pro Das Keyboard [0], Logitech Performance Mouse MX [2] on a Steel Series 4HD Gaming [3] mouse pad. Music goes between speakers and headphones depending on how loud I want it to go. I listen to Pandora most of the day with pianobar [1] in the terminal. My office is less than 10 minutes from my house- I get in anywhere between 05:00-06:30 (depending on when I wake up and how motivated I am to get stuff done) and I'm home by 16:00-17:00. Twitter is traveling a road that the industry has already been down before, and as an outside observer, it would appear that they've failed to learn from history. AIM, MSN, and the other IM networks gradually attempted to generate revenue by adding advertisements to their official clients, and additionally, did not provide clients for operating systems other than Windows (and sometimes Mac OS/Mac OS X). In addition to that, there was a significant user demand for IM clients that could connect to multiple networks at once, which was strictly contrary to the business goals of the commercial IM networks. None of the IM network protocols were public, but this didn't stop developers from reverse engineering the IM protocols and producing alternative clients, often to the chagrin and frustration of the IM network providers. There was, for a time, a small arms race between AOL and implementors of unofficial AIM clients, but invariably the 3rd party developers won. This despite the fact that the protocols were complex binary-only affairs. The modern reliance on HTTP and self-describing encodings (eg, JSON) is a significant difference from that time, and makes reverse engineering of closed protocols vastly easier. This arms race also wasn't constrained to open-source; there were a number of shareware third-party IM clients. If Twitter continues to lock down their APIs for the use of 3rd party clients, while simultaneously 'monetizing' their client while almost invariably making…
